Here is my situation, friends. I have an old Sony changer that gets moody and a lot of the time doesn't like to read burnt cd's. In my dash is my 4 year old Sony cassette headunit. (I bought the tapedeck instead of a cd 4 years ago because I dj, used to make tapes, had a ****load of tapes, and was always being given mixed tapes by other people to check out. Not to mention I had the changer in the trunk already. At that time, burnt cd's weren't that common.)
About 2 months ago, the rotary volume control on my deck died, but luckily I had a remote, so I can still control the volume. But...now it's time to upgrade. I was going to try and grab a cd headunit but it apparently has to be a Sony to go with the changer. I know Sony is crap, and the changer in the trunk is kinda moody. Do y'all think I should still go out and buy a Sony headunit with changer control, or just go for a better brand, and get rid of the changer in the trunk?
Your thoughts are greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long-winded message. Also, if you have any suggestions on decks that are in the $200-$300 dollar range that are half decent.
Thanks.

I agree, i have had an mp3 deck for over a year now and won't go back.
Take a look at the Kenwood MP3 decks, they are fairly cheap (saw an MP522 at Best Buy this week for 259!) and are very good. No problems at all.

The changer's moodiness will not go away, it will only get worse with time. So don't base any purchases on a product that you will likely be ditching shortly.
The changer is nice to have for continuous music, but don't tie yourself to Sony if you don't like their quality. Just deal with a single disc until you have money to buy a new changer.
As for cassettes, get a deck that has an aux. input. That way you can plug a walkman into your deck and still play cassettes.
^^ What they said about MP3 (But that's only practical if you have the computer with all of the necessary hardware and software which I think you do have)
