New Alt...........Wow I'm Confused
Alright so my whole system does about 800rms.
Shortly after installing the stereo my battery goes, and i don't think that was a coincidence.
My stock alt is only 70amps.
So i go to get a new battery thinking optima yellow top ($250) and the guy is telling me that it won't help with anything, that i need a new alt, so i get a cheapo $90 battery.
So should i get a new alt?
I seen this one:

its $200 shipped 160 amps
cause i know some people say alt, some say new battery, some say big 3, some say extra battery (i know caps are useless)
so what should i do?

i have 1500+ watts for bass and another 300+ watts for mids and highs and being run off a stock 80 amp alt with a yellow top under the hood and a yellow top in my trunk. Before this set up i have 1000+ watts for bass and 300+ watts for mids and highs with a 80 amp alt and one yellow top under the hood with no problems. I would have got the yellow top first and see what happens. They do say to upgrade the alt first but i always did the battery first and had no problems. I had the system in my car now for 3 years and i've been using the same stock alt in my car for 5 years.

The big three is an absolute must and it should be 1/0 guage. This should be the first thing that you do, because more often then not the factory charging system wiring is 10 gauge and if you are really lucky 8 gauge. You likely could get away with the stock alt and the yellow top with no problems for your system provided you do the big 3.

I'm a big beleiver in a bigger alt. The car needs lots of that juice.
my car came with a good size alt, but it needs it.
Rear defrost, heater fan, rad fans are electric, A/C, lights, accessoies all need current and your battery can only supply what it gets fed long term.

Find the case type for yours and you may be surprized that another car may have a stock hi-output one you can use.I am in the same boat with my Volvo not many make a 300amp alt.I may end up going to a Prestolite like my truck and other cars as you can`t kill them and you can even weld from some they make.
