New To Car Audio (Help Please)

Heey,

I have already purchased a ported box for 2 12s

i was just wondering what brand or type of subs you guys would recommend
and

(also what i should be looking for in the way of specs for subs)

Well first of all welcome. Second MORE INFO :) first of all do you have an amp? and what amp is it. Also vehicle and type of music you listen to would help. Are you looking for an SPL or SQ type system?

That should get us closer anyways. :)

heeeey, well i have an '87 Ford Explorer so trunk space wont b too much of an issue
but i looked around town here and i found ..
2 EFX 12" DUAL VC SUBW
and
Audiobahn A8000T Amp

so yeaa ..

oh and wtf u mean by SQ or STP

SPL = Sound Pressure Level aka loudness
SQ = Sound Quality

well i guess we would all like it in between, but
i guess i would have to lean towards more of quality than loudness

The equipment that you found in town is bottom of the barrel I hate to say, no offence intended but while it can be made to work to the best of it's abilities, it will get it's butt handed to it by other equipment.

Your choice of equipment for the Explorer will come down to your budget and what you want the system to do now and in the future.

Personally you are trying to build a house from the top down. Your choice of a sub box as the first purchase should have come after the choice of sub was made. The box is the single most important thing that will either make or break a sub.

My advice is to slow down some, ask more questions and get some answers so that you can make a educated and informed buying decision. There is nothing worse than blowing money or stereo gear to find out that you bought all the wrong equipment that some scuzball sold you based on his lie or your misunderstanding. I know this first hand, I learned the hard way 24 years ago.......that is how I truly got into doing car audio and built the succesfull car audio business that I have today.

LOL true enough, what is your budget for this adventure?

chemicals96 07-08-2007 04:33 PM

well ..i would like to spend around $2500 or sumthing around there
and i would like to g o w/ AUDIOBAHN, just a personal favorite
but it doesnt neccessarily havta b AUDIOBAHN so yeaa ..

i found

- Pair of Audiobahn AW1200V 12" 1400W Dual 4Ohm Subwoofers
- AUDIOBAHN A18001DT MONO CLASS D 3600 WATT AMPLIFIER
- Audiobahn A2300HCT High Current Flame Amp 2400 Watts

i know, its just stuff i found on the net i wanna get
but just lemme know wut i should get and steer me in the right direction
im just giving you sum ideas on wut i would like

i'm gonna pipe in before other people do. i have a feeling your gonna get some

negative feedback on audiobahn from other users, as i hear it all the time.

and from personal experience, i can say they arn't all that bad

i had a set of 10" aluminum q woofers and they were decent. so don't

necessarily listen to ppl when they say they are crap, but trhere is definatly

better woofers out there for the money........just my opinion:smilie_da

I would skip the low budget stuff step, and look into two IDQ"s, or two TC1000's if you want SQL, or go to TREO or Digital Designs for SPL.
