WHat happens if you turn it down? It sounds like crap? No, but that is exactly what is happening when you turn the volume down, the sub is getting less power.

i now sell decks that you can only turn 1/2 way down to make sure the sub is seeing enough power to work
you see the magnet feezes the voice coil in its magnetic grip once you give it 1/2 power it will jump out and begin working
unfortuantly if the bass stops in the song you have to turn it up again to get it working </font>
These are the comments i am talking about. Obviously they have interperted what i have said wrong. Just makes me think why i should take time out of my day to make a response. Still i have much respect for you DWVW, maybe we could finish the conversation another way.

My comments weren't aimed strictly at yours. Discussing efficiency of subwoofers has no place in car audio as far as I'm concerned. Not since power has been cheap as it has for so long anyways. Like I said efficiency only really matters when designing speaker systems with passive crossovers, and possibly trying to hit as high an SPL number with a limited number of watts available. The original poster is not trying to do either so efficiency really has little to do with what he is looking for.

yes my analogy is about as right as yours is
i deal with people who think they know more than i an installer with over 20 years under my belt
has a guy today bought a amp at a pawn shop it was blown up or he blew it up
i told him how his wire wasn't big enough
he proceded to tell me he knew what he was taking about and was looking to argue with me
i told him i wouldn't do it as in use small wire
and he told me repeatedly it was ok
i deal with people who try and tell me what they think they know everyday
so my words to you
post what you know if your not sure say so
or do a little research into the theory and use your brain just don't go by what everybody else posts on the internet
i had this discussion with johnny toronto with what amp blind db bought
people think they have to run rated power into a sub to make it sound any good
and there wrong
i have done lots of systems with far less than 1/2 power to the subs and the customers have been more than happy with them
you go and find out how the human perception of loudness scale works then think about what diffenence half the power makes

IN any case, to put this back on topic. If the guy wants to hear a Type X, and buy it if he likes it, he should be able to. If I worked at a shop that stocked them I would have the installer throw one into a box, let him listen, and gladly take his money. They are a good sub, no reason to talk him out of one.

I was not talking him out of one, i just did like what he said "try to make me put this piece of **** pg xenon"
To tell you the truth, i know efficiency isn't a big part, nor a factor at all, i just thought i would throw that original comment into play.
