Hey guys, just found this forum. It's nice to see a canadian site and not just all american sites .

I would like to add an amp and sub to my speakers and HU and was wondering which you guys would choose and why.

I'm currently running a pioneer 7700MP deck and infinity 5000cs components upfront. The rear are stock speakers. This is in a 91 318is.

I was thinking of putting in a RF Punch 4004 4ch amp but now am looking at the MTX MXA series of amps since I can get them cheaper. What are your thoughts on this series of amps from MTX? Are they ok? I was looking in particular at the MXA4004 and 4002 or 4001D. I'm leaning towards the MTX stuff cause of the price I can get them at.

Amp choices:
RF Punch 4004
MTX MXA4004

Sub choices:
Infinity 1040
JL Audio 10w1v2
RF P210s4
MTX MXS 1004

Which sub out of those 4 would you get? Should I get a seperate amp for the sub? If so what would be better, MXA4001D, MXA4002.

I personally like the MTX amps.

As for the sub, I would say just to listen to them. They all are going to sound different and it's hard to say what you like. Regardless of the sub I would buy a seperate amp, the 4001D would probably be best depending on what ohm load you end up with depending on what sub you get.

IMO the MXA4004 has more jam than the RF 4004.

If you do go with the MXA4004 and bridge the rear to a sub, I would actually consider the MZS1004 instead of the MXS1004 as the MXS likes a little more power.

I have a Rockford p4004. It is an excellent amp as I've used channels 3+4 bridged to 2 ohms to drive 2x12" subs for over 6months and had no problems at all. It is not recommended for that load when bridged by the way, but it can do it. It also sounds really good, nice full sound, unlike some other brands I've used in the past. As far as MTX goes, they are an excellent choice as well. I would just listen to the two or more and then decide keeping the price and any other factors in mind. I don't think you can go wrong either way.

Is there a big difference between the MZS and MXS series of subs then besides power? If i'm only putting one in the car, which would be the better one?

MXA4002 or MXA4001D to power the sub? Is it alright to bridge the 4002 to power one sub? Sorry for all the questions. I'm still new to this stuff .

Get an MXA6004 and the MXS1004 if you want more power and the bigger sub.

FYI-some member named "Pancake" has an mxa 4004 in the 'for sale' section for $180.00. Check it out.

DWVW, thanks for the suggestion, I was thinking the same myself. My front speakers take 75w rms, if I put in the MXA6004, will the front speakers be ok since there'll be 150w going to each?
