NEW orion product

Hey Guys,
I just heard a z24 with some new orion product in it, just wanted to see what you guys think about it (the product). i believe it was a 1200d and 2 p 12" woofer, it slammed so hard and low. I couldn't beleive how clean it was on the bottom end. the sweet spot for the system was about 35hz. the reason i'm asking is i know the reputation they had back in the day, but I haven't seen much lately from them. however if this car is any indication the new stuff seems pretty sweet.

Well, I like the stuff, a lot. My wife had a baby recently, had it been a boy, his name would've been Orion. I think that's a great boy's name, I'm not just some super-geek that wanted to name his kid after his audio equipment We had a girl though, Piper.
My 1200d is kickass, I've been running it at 1 ohm for 11 months now, and it hasn't had a bad day yet. It even runs cooler than my rear stage amp, a bridged 50x4 Clarion. I want to upgrade my dashboard speakers sometime in the next year, I bet a set of Orion components would do nicely.
I bought an XTR900 12 months ago, and there was a wierd problem with a resistor on the board inside... the circuit "resposible for absorbing Back EMF from the speaker". EMF is Electro Magnetic Feedback.
Well the techs looked at it, I talked to Directed California, my techs talked to Directed Quebec (Orion is a division of Directed now). Although the tech support was great (even though no one told me I was mistakenly emailing Cali when I should've been emailing Quebec), no one could figure out why it kept doing it, even with a larger resistor in it's place. After a month, I gave up, traded it in and paid for the upgrade to the 1200d. Dunno whatever happened to that old amp...
My 11 month old Orion H2 12.2 woofer is cooked though, recently. See this http://www.canadiancaraudio.com/ubb/...c;f=7;t=000910 thread for more details. They have it in Quebec now and yup, the coils are all melted... They can't believe it any more than I can. It's rated for 2000w continuous, I only hand it 1200 with my amp.
We'll see what happens, watch that other thread for further details, hopefully this week

I was extremely pleased with the performance of my Orion gear. Check my SD page to see what was in the car.
The P-series are great drivers and are pretty efficient with the 600rms rating. Two P-series off a 1200D (underrated - does ~1400rms) is a nice setup. They excel in a ported design and using the correct box they can have good SQ while getting very loud.
For the price of them though, I would opt for the H2 driver. Better SQ, can work in smaller enclosures, and a lot more displacement.
You'll need at least 1000rms per driver though.
2000rms on a single H2 will get extremely loud.
Grizz - I have spoken with competitors using 8000-10000rms per driver with no problems.
As for the amps, they have zero noise problems, are sonically very good pieces, and most are underrated and very durable.

that new orion stuff is taken from the pages of mark busiers desk when he was the cheif engineer at orion, i spoke with the boys in the orion both at ces and they told me that orion was bought out by dei for a song. all the tech. was kept but dei would go in a new direction with marketing and image, so the new look and i will admit there are some changes made to the electonic side of the amps but the bulk of them is still orion of old. that being said i bleed orion since 87 when i bought my first 240gt amp from ace audio video s'toon from doug gilroy. and i just got rid of my last stuff on jan of this yr through ebay. sob sob, that was a long love affar with a product. i hope my new endevores with a different line prove as prosperous as my last with orion.

did a 2500d and a 800.4 in a boat, besides sucking an insane amount of current, they worked very good and have never had a thermal issue, which in the okanagan in the summer can be an issue. i think we sell more cooling fans of all shapes and sizes than anyone

K, talked to the Directed dude today. I won't "steal" this thread so for those interested, see my latest post in this http://www.canadiancaraudio.com/cgi/...c&f=7&t=000910 thread.
