new to site lots of questions

ok, so i have been using the search function and thought i would post what probably is a stupid and often asked amounts of questions.

when i bought my car it had ultimate t3 components 6.5 mids 1'' tweets. and 6x9 t3 in rear. i never have heard of them. it sounded ok on deck power, but since i have not heard of them maybe someone can relay some info about them. and retail cost of them. whats good and if i should even keep them in my closet?

since then i have deleted the rear speakers to use as porting holes for bass and installed in the front kaption mpt-6.50" components. i liked the sound in the store and top of the line i thought hey might as well. i am running them off of a clarion apx 2180. how do people like kaption audio stuff? is it good in your opinion? better then ultimate?

sub department i was running cheap pionner single voice coil 2 12" that would take a beating and keep comin for more. in a ported bassworks HUGE 4cubic box (ya i know i had no clue what i was or what i am doing s dont point out the obvious) powering i had a clarion dpx 1800 mono amp.

my deck is a pioneer 5700 dvd which i love.

my subs, box and dpx amp recently were stolen. and i was given $1000 in replacement insurance. i was going to go all kaption 2 10's dual voice coils with kaption d500.1 amp but not sure on if i should do it.

i know an internet site is biased opinions and i should do what i want to do but i will be adding more to it and want to know peoples opinions with reasons to back up what they say, no usless bs with no proof please....cheers:smilie_da

whats useless bs is ICBC and there stupid $1000 maximum payout for stereo stuff... stupid crap!

other then that i dunno.. i havnt heard the Kaption stuff... but if you want to go for something that shows well then its always a good idea to have matching gear...

zzzzzzz 05-22-2008 12:16 AM

are you going for sq or spl

veeman 05-22-2008 12:27 AM

Kaption is very good equipment, but your ears will tell you what sounds best...to you. Quality is A1, great company, and I like the way their stuff sounds. If you want a killer deal for subs and an amp...look at Timmy Turtle's ad in the for sale section...2 DD 10" subs BNIB and a 1000 watt Clarion mono amp(mint condition) for 370.00!!
A steal if there ever was one!

Jo-Psyko 05-22-2008 12:45 AM

i agree with him... you really wont find anything better then that... its all brand new gear.. you could have it at your door with money to spare and those subs are great!!!!!

1997civic 05-22-2008 12:46 AM

what i am going for is a half decent system. i want to use some trunk space, and have good quality with maybe a litle thump. dont need 156db's or anything like that. and i have to buy new from dealer. icbc only gives me credit for new stuff......anyone heard of ultimate? just want to know about my 6x9's and 6.5 components....i may just give them to a friend.. any other subs amps you recomend?

zzzzzzz 05-22-2008 01:41 AM

why not go into a store get $1000 of things then sell it off for 800 then get the subs for 350 or did i miss some thing ?

Jo-Psyko 05-22-2008 01:59 AM

ultimate is an entry level brand.. i know visions used to sell it i dont know if they still do or not... $1000 is a pretty good amount to work with, you should have no problem being set up for that amount of money.

ryannow 05-22-2008 10:37 AM

i've heard ultimate's t3 6.5" components on a store board. i thought they sounded really good, but that's about all the experience i've had with em.

veeman 05-22-2008 12:16 PM

Ultimate is decent equipment. It's not high end, but it's not junk either. If it sounds good, and works well...use it, sell it, gift it. With regards to the $1000.00, I'd spend it like this; 350.00 for a good sub (Kaption spl 1200 works, and since you already have Kaption comps, why not keep it all Kaption?), 150.00 custom box, 300.00 class d mono( that new Pioneer mono block looks good and cheap), 100.00 for install and wiring, or do the all Kaption route you initially mentioned...that works too. It all depends on what you want. The SPL's would pound in the right box with 600+ watts, the cl10's are good sounding subs, and will get plenty loud with 2 of them. Personally, I like the spl's, just because I know if I get hungry for more, I can always get another, and double up on power to get really loud...mind you that's the 20 year old in me speaking. My true self, a 40 year old dad is quite happy with half that these days!

if it is going into a civic i would get a good alarm 1st and with the rest i would a ok sub ok amp and just a box for the sub

Jo-Psyko 05-22-2008 01:17 PM

yeah the alarm is a good idea... and you already know that after having you stuff stolen once....

veeman 05-22-2008 01:25 PM

alarm is good, but stealth is way better...you should know the rules; no cranking close to where you're going to park, make sure all equipment is hidden, make a fake/false faceplate out of original equipment or similar, and don't brag about your gear to friends or their friends! I learned my lessons about 20 years ago now, and haven't had it happen since.

Jo-Psyko 05-22-2008 01:31 PM

yeah mine is turned down as soon as im with in a block and a half of my apt... but nothing about it is stealth.

Veeman around here the number one stolen car is the honda civic. and they are always being stolen... like always! you should see the insurance rates on them... So either way an alarm is a good idea in these parts...

zzzzzzz 05-22-2008 02:15 PM

honda civic you know it is gone in under a 1min

veeman 05-22-2008 02:22 PM

well, then the best idea is to get a different car! I mean if they're that sought after, sell or trade it...or wait for it to be stolen, then get something else that's not on the thieves' radar, and put a nice system in it. If I knew that my civic was such a target, I'd definitely not invest in a system!

Jo-Psyko 05-22-2008 03:10 PM

yeah its really bad for them... i know people that have civics from the late 90's and they pay as much as i do for insurance, and i drive a 2007 caliber...

zzzzzzz 05-22-2008 04:19 PM

i had one ,ok i have had 8 honda civic
1 of them was stolen 8x in under a year

1997civic 05-23-2008 10:56 PM

ya, well i am going to be doing my alarm in the next couple weeks, and then the system. i want compustar but it think autopage is what i will do. its either going to be a twister amp and 2 focal 10's in a custom box for my car, or all kaption in a prefabbed box....the alarm IS what i am worried about at the moment. compustar has longer range and auto start for manual...autopage is cheaper....i dont know about viper? i always thought of them as a futureshop special. but i am going with 2 way pager. o and my car is usally not cranked, my brother had it when it was stolen so maybe he had it going

1997civic 06-05-2008 08:12 PM

all done, compustar alarm wit ha custom install, luv it.....downsized to 2 10 type R's in a single square ported box, and a pdx 1.600 amp. i thought i was downsizing, but i actually upsized lol, the 10's hit harder and louder with better quality in sound. anyone have input on any of this stuff? i like it soo far and got a good deal soo i can take anyones negative comments or positive

veeman 06-05-2008 10:27 PM

I like my type R's too!
