new system?

i'm lookin to get an entirely new system for a 1996 VW golf 2-dr

i'm thinkin a single 12" or a dual 10" setup.. which will be best.. i'm lookin for some pretty decent BOOM for all types of music while still retaining most of the SQ.. i like my music...
i don't have the car yet i'm just waiting for my 02 honda civic 4-dr to sell

what would be best for some component speakers?? i'm pretty retarded when it comes to comp speakers.. i'm still new to this hobby..

go with one better 12, then the price of two cheaper 10s, it will be easier to hit lower notes with it, and it will take up less room. and your SQ will improve due to having one well built subwoofer over two lesser. in general you only gain 3db by adding a second sub, and a single sub can be louder then two single.

but simple questions to start with are:
are you willing to buy and ship from online sales or just major brand stuff from most local shops?
when it comes to comp speakers i mix and match raw drivers from all sorts of places, it adds a bit of complication when shopping but leaves me with unlimited options and huge savings for the sq i can make.

how much are you willing to spend total?
if you do not have a deck with rca preouts (preferably sub rca preouts too) that should be your first buy. it will make life much easier for the total set up.

nextly: if you want to make bass your priority over speakers, focus on your subwoofer amp, in general it will give you a starting point as to how loud you can be, for a good average system i would recommend between 800w-1200w rms for the amp, do not let this fool you about the subwoofer, the subwoofer normal can handle much more power then rated, my last two i ran between 600-900rms watts to a 200rms rated sub, and loved it, and could run that way for life.

so answer some of the questions and i'll help you out from their

i wanna try and keep my system as cheap as possible to start... i might go with a used amp.. i have a pioneer DEH-P6900UB deck.. probably gonna buy a cheap sub from F-shop just to get a feel for the car audio scene.. maybe a infinity perfect 12.1 DVQ

your deck is a good start, you wont need to upgrade that till you get picky. as for futureshop.... just aweful stuff thier, with HUGE mark up, if you want that kinda gear atleast get it used from a pawn shop, our local pawnshops are full of infinity subs and RF subs from future shop. the only components i saw thier i liked were the energy brand ones.. they were like $350 lol.
if you do buy used and ship it you will save huge money and get lots of value. and im not talk about just ebay, better deals can be found on these forum classifieds, icixsound.com, caraudioforum.com DIYMA forums (more advanced equipment their mostly)
i hate watching good money go to futureshop lol.

actually right now i have no idea how much i'm willing to spend.. i don't have a job right now and am pretty much flat broke.. i should have a little bit of money left over from my 2002 honda civic that i'm selling.. i was paying it off to my parents but i lost my job and ran out of money so there gonna sell it and give me back what ever money i put into it for insurance and payments..
i think i'm getting like $4000 or so and i'm gonna buy a VW golf 2-dr for $3500 then the rest is going towards insurance for it.. unless i can convince my parents to pay for my insurance for 6 months w/o collision... and i have no idea how much i'm getting back from my taxes...

but for a ball park number.. less than $600??

with that amount to play with you may want to think about just tackling one end of the stereo to begin with then gradually build the rest this way you dont have to sacrifice by buying a whole stereo for 600 then just end up replacing it all right away.... this again is another way to help avoid wasting money

ya that was my plan.. just stick with a sub and a amp and some tweeters then build up my mids and highs later on...

yeah thats the way to do it... i built my rear... though its still not enough.... but listening wise all i can hear is base so now its time to upgrade the front... and you can get a pretty decent bass set up for around 600$ including the wiring and everything!
