Newbie with $1000 to burn. Already own the deck. Which Sub & Amp do I want?

Hey folks!

Novice user here with some money to burn while I have it.

Quick background:

I own a 2004 Acura MDX, which has the BOSE Speakers and I've already had a Kenwood KDC-BT838U deck installed for the last 2-3 years (Nothing fancy but seems to work well with bluetooth).

Right now, I have $1000 in Canadian cash in my hands that I need to spend to get some serious bass before I end up spending it on a bunch of other stupid stuff that I don't really need.. So figuring out which parts to buy and comitting to it as soon as possible is vital!

So, my question to you experts is simple:

If you had $1000 bucks, cash, and did not need the deck in an otherwise stock Acura MDX, *what exactly* would you buy? I know that any car audio place I go to, as a novice user that doesn't have enough time to learn the ins and outs before comitting, will have the people there trying to unload anything they can onto me.

So if it was YOUR cash, what would YOU choose? I know it's kind of broad question but I'd love to hear your suggestions. I just really don't know if I should be looking at all Kenwood parts to try and go with a "theme" or what. I am just all around confused but would love to get some suggestions or answers on this stuff

Thanks so much in advance!

(4) Incriminator Audio 187 15" 300W RMS $120 shipped each on SSA.com/dunno the coils
(1) Audioque 1200D (1470W @ 1 ohm @ 14.4V) $249 (shipped?)
(1) Deep-cycle battery
Deadening
16-20 cubic foot ported box tuned 30-35 Hz.

You might not have enough for shipping, it would be close.

... then $1000 later, buy all the same stuff and run two bridged 1200D's @ 2 ohms on 8 15's in a big ported clamshell.

If you won't want to upgrade and have wood available to stay in budget, 4 Audioque SDC2.5-15's on an AQ 2200 for $1025+.

2 incriminator audio lethal injection 12's with a incriminator audio 20.1. Box built about 5.5 cubic ft with slot port tuned to 32 hz.

Eek.

This is all Greek to me. I thought it was going to be fairly cut and dry, like buy X subwoofer and X amp.

I am not familiar at all with slot ports, clam shells, and these hz and ohm's ratings

Maybe just trusting a good audio shop to do the work is the way to go.. I am not able to commit so much time into learning all of this jargon and technical information :(

Thanks for the recommendations so far.. If anybody else has any suggestions in "laymans terms" I'm also all ears hehe

Cheers and thanks guys

I would ask what the local shop can do for you(tell them to make a
List) get back to us with the list and we shall give you our opinions.

so whats important how good it sounds OR how loud it is OR both

duckdown May 23, 2011 05:51 PM

Well I was just hoping to get a nice bit of bass going that won't sound like complete crap. For the times I listen to drum & bass or dubstep, both of those genres don't sound good unless theres alot of bass to go with it. However many times, more often even, I still listen to Rock & Roll and metal, so I'd assume for those times, I'd be turning the subwoofer down on the presets within my car deck.

I just kind of figured $1000 would be a nice budget to get a good mix of quality and bass, but I guess $1000 is small change compared to some setups..

I would say, what would you do if you were in my position with my budget? I could add on a little bit if needed for something really nice

THanks again

It was cut & dry.

Subs:
(4) Incriminator Audio 187 15" for $480.

Amp:
AudioQue 1200D $249.

Good battery
Deep-cycle $100

Box
Give us your useable dimensions, listening preferences, goals, and we can design you a box (that you later print to take with you).

You then take all that to a shop.

For $1000 a shop will sell you 2 10" subs and a 500W amp, hardly "serious" bass.

Great, thanks alot man! I am ready to buy literally any time, and my budget of $1000 is a soft budget. I have more money to play with if needed.

I see your location says Hamilton Ontario, any shops you'd recommend? I'd probably link them directly to your post and see what they say

This is the only part I'm not sure how to answer? I have an Acura MDX SUV so it should be able to fit whatever is necessary? Goals are just to add a nice bit of bass to the truck for when I'm on the road. I would never be competing in a sound competition or anything like that, that would require alot more knowledge than I've got for now.

Thanks LordHugginton!

the things you describe say you are in this for you, not for the unwashed masses (unless they are in your car) you ARE SQ. You will be rewarded by quality from the HU front end to the speakers when you want your music to sound as it was intended, for you this wont be a fad. Listen and trust your ears to make your purchase for you
