Newbie needs help

I am looking for component speakers for my vw (comes stock with 2 sets of components with the vw monsoon system) and have checked several shops. Each has given me a different answer on what to install. The first recommended "HERTZ" ESK165 in the front($299) and the matching coaxial in the rear($165), the 2nd said Boston Acoustics SL60's ($300)all around and the 3rd told me to put my cash towards the front pair (JL Audio C5-650 -$549)and covers over the existing vw rears. His theory being that you basically only hear the front set anyways why waste your money on the back set. Anybody have any ideas?

Hi,

I would keep the back speakers stock for now. IMO there's no real sense in upgrading these. I would look into getting a pair of Alpine components and call it a day. I have a BINB Alpine SPX-17PRO Alpine Electronics of America, Inc. - SPX-17PRO that mostly be for sale come March. why? Going to the Alpine F#1 3 way instead.

Have you thought about getting some RAW drivers and build your own component set?
Check out
eBay Store - 101-WORLD: OEM WOOFERS, OEM X-OVERS, PRO AUDIO RAW DRIVERS-Hi,

Also check out DIY Mobile Audio - Technical, Advanced & Informative there's a ton of info and great deals to be had over there.

FS: it all needs to go - DIY Mobile Audio
(the alpines in this FS thread is a killer deal IMO) $150US + ship frig I almost want to get these myself

Lots of options to choose from but what are your goals in the system? Lots of questions to be asked before one can zero in on speakers. Now is the time to pick up on deals though....

My goals for the system are not for competition purposes, I just would like something that sounds better than what I currently have. The problem though, is that the price difference from one to the other is about $600. I listen to all the speakers at the stores and they all sound good but its three different shops for three different speakers. And in true salesman fashion they all say the other speakers are crap. What do I do?
Oh yeah...I listen mainly to alternative music through my sirius hook-up.

hmmm 1 -all products mentioned are top quality lines they were 'selling you' to their brand, 2 - not upgrading your rear speakers might not be a terrible idea depending on the stereo that came with the car, 3- buy the one that made you happiest, the one that sounded the best to you (they were radically different speakers and some were bottom of the line some were not so get what gets you there), 4 -in the future bring a CD to audition so you can directly compare the speakers from reference point. Also ensure the HU EQ's are set flat
