Thanks everyone. I had planned for a 14x14x24 external enclosure (nice generic fit in any smaller trunk) but may extend the width to 28-30" and only eat up 10-11" of depth.

for my cavy to sit in teh very back of the trunk anythign over 32" wont fit . teh trunk is thinner at the back then in the front.

WTF.........you guys all can't measure or is GM got that much room in their tolerances when building their cars that no one has the same measurement :D

^^^^Yeah that's what I was thinking also. I think a couple people were going by what they remembered the measurements to be while I just walked outside and measured the damn thing.

BTW, measurements taken with the plastic opening/side covers removed so you can fit the enclosure through.

Well your measurement of the width between the tirewells was wrong ;) Unless of course the Cav and Sunfire have different trunk dimensions, which I suspect is not the case. You can stick the box in from the cabin sideways and then rotate it into place once it is past the angled sides of the opening to the trunk. However, even the Cav and Sunfire do have different trunk dimensions Dukk asked for Cav measurements ;) I will get the exact measurements later tonight when I get home.

lol - it is being built 14.5x14.5x24 external dimensions. This should be safe from all that I have read.

Couldn't have been quite as bad as Rockney's box though ;)

Lol.. but everyone likes to remove there trunk latch / spare tire and the front baffle and use a soft rubber mallet to get the box in..

here is a pic of it.. all 4.5 cubes of it

</font>
That would be an older Cav ;)

Actually, that's in a Cutlass.

and it took, the removal of the baffle, spare tire and some real ingenious shimming and hammering to get it in there.

I'm told it took an air shear to remove it :D

Oops, my bad. Thought it was a 2nd gen Cav ;)
