your box will be the biggest factor.
Are you building your box, or buying a prefab?

If you build it to spec, both of those subs will sound decent.

i will be building the box out of 1 " mdf.
it seems to me that the jbl has better specifications. doesn't it. it has a wider frequency band longer excursion, and a heavier magnet. am i sounding like a noob yet. i am buying tomorrow and your opinions and reasons are appreciated.

Personally I wouldn't go for either of those 2 woofers. If you have a budget, tell us what amp your running, box space, and maybe we can help choose something a little better?

I've never been disappointed with a JBL woofer.

I have owned them in two different systems, and run 10's in one and 12's in another.

I'd say if the price is right go for it.

You can generally find JBL very cheap at independant shops, as opposed to best Buy, for example.

I found 4 JBL 10's for 160 dollars for one of my setups, and it was quite a great sounding setup IMO.

Shop around and see what you can dig up, the older JBL models (GtO/Gti? plain black dustcap with silver or white JBL logo and no '1000' or whatever digits) are some of my favourite cheap/decent woofers, but they are a little tough to find now, being a few years old.

thanks guys

its an 88 olds cutlass/room for 3 bodies.
actually about 36"widex30"longx17"high

i can get the jbl gt120 for $66.00 brand new, which makes it favourably more tempting to buy.

like i said in my first thread i don't have any really quality car audio, home audio is where i spend my money. i live in Scarborough and work downtown where my car is out of view for 10 hours and don't want to become a statistic with my stereo.

so no laughing or flaming when i tell you about my amp.

Rampage(audiovox)
amp-591a
150wattsx2-stereo
300x1-mono

@1%t.h.d.
100watts rmsx2-stereo
200watts rmsx1-mono

output imp.
2-8ohms-stereo
4-8ohms-mono

fr.response 10-35,000hz +/-1db
channel seperation 50db
signal/noise ratio 86db

input imp.
low level 10k ohms
high level 100 ohms

input sensitivity
low-level 200mv.-2v
high level 2-10v

low and high pass filters
filter slope- 12db/octave
filter crossover
low:30-120hz(selectable)
high:120-800hz(selectable)
bass boost+10db@50hz
fuse-20amps

there it is:
remember no laming.

if you were in my shoes with a budget of 150-200 dollars what would you do and why.

thanks
