Question Noob Needs Help(how many of these have you read?)

ok so im just about to buy my first car its a 2003 Subaru Legacy GT and my brothers giving me 2 12" subs and a 1000 watt amp to go with it so he can get rid of the car but now im looking to buy a Head Unit.

I've been looking at ones with the LCD screens and some without, is there any real audio advantage with having one of the high end LCD screens i know you get DVD playback and some of them have the A/V hook ups to plug in a PS2 which might be a cool thing to do.

A few of the LCD decks i've been looking at are
Alpine IVAD310 or the Alpine IVAD105 i cant seem to find a difference the 310 might have GPS but not sure
or
Pioneer AVH-P5000DVD

A few of the regular head units are
Alpine CDA9887 or Pioneer DEHP880PRS i havent done alot of looking to these 2.

Also i hear that F/X is probably the best place to go to get a install in Edmonton, do they install stuff that you dont buy there cause i know some crappy places wont.

Well any input on what would be best for would be great.

Thanks.

well as for not buying your equipment from the same place as you have install, it makes little difference as they get paid either way, if you buy it there, you pay a little more but get a discount on install and they stand behind the whole thing.
If you buy it elsewhere, they charge more for install and won't stand behind it as they have no clue where the equipment came from, peace of mind of being completely covered if something should go wrong has some value and you should consider this when making your decision.

As for the decks you mentioned, I have owned the 880prs, the 9887 and currently running the D310....I liked the 880 but it was mechanically cheap in my opinion.
the 9887 I loved, to me it sounded better than the 880 and seemed to have been built a little better....biggest complaint with the 9887 was the colour schemes were really lame (not much of a complaint)

I went with the IVA-D310 because of the optical output on it to run my H701 processor.....works great, does what it should and if you're interested in the DVD capabilities and the screen, then I recommend it.

if you don't care so much about the screen or DVD then my vote goes to the 9887...

....anything else that you mentioned that I didnt, I have no experience with and no comment on.

i have a D310. no GPS on that, you need an extra alpine peice. the diff between 310 and 105 is that 301 has a 7 inch screen, 105 is 6.5 inch. I'd go for 105 cuz it's cheaper.

so the only difference betwen the 310 and 105 is just the .5 inch of the screen size well ya for 200 bucks cheaper i'd probably go for that one.

is there any sound quality difference between the LCD and non LCD decks for audio quality or does that all go through speakers and the subs and amp and what not?

dont think there is any sound quality diff in the expensive alpine decks.

i think d310 has more sound control options but i never really used them. so unless you are super sq type guy i'd go with d105.
