I just got most of my stereo put back in my truck last night and found that I had some alternator whine through the front speakers. I messed around with grounds and nothing seemed to help.
Today I bought a ground loop isolator and put it in. Alternator whine went away, but so did the output to the front speakers.
Anyone have any ideas on what I can do to get music back through the fronts?

Thanks.

Either put it inline with your sub amp only (if thats where the noise is comming from) or find the source of the noise and fix it !

The isolator's between the level converter and the front amp. I have another amp here I'll maybe throw in and see if it fixes it.

You will have to do some trouble shooting.. but most of time the problem is with your source or preamp...

Try a search on how to find the source of the noise and how to fix it... if you cant find anything get back to me and Ill try and explain it.....

what are you using for equipment? I assume you still have the factory deck, as you said you installed the GLI between the line out convertor and the amp. Also what kind of truck. Year, make, and model helps.

The truck is a '95 Dodge Ram. Speakers are 2 - Pioneer TS-906 6x9s. Amp is a Pioneer H-100( I think). Deck is an old Kenwood KDC-216S. Only has 1 pre out, hence the line level converter. When I unplug the RCAs I have no noise, but I haven't muted the amp yet to see whether it was the problem or not. I'll check the deck's ground in the morning to see if that helps or not.

Thanks for the help guys.

O.K., so why do you have a lineout convertor? You only listed your KDC 216, DEH 100, and Pioneer 6x9s. Do you also have a sub, and amp that you didn't mention? If so the easiest thing to do would be use some RCA Y splitters at your deck and run RCA cables to each of your amps, you won't have any front/back control but everything will work. Then when you get some cash saved up get a deck with lots of preouts.

I guess I missed some things last night. Sub amp is an Orion HCCA 275R and the sub is an RE HC 12". The line level convertor is there since the preouts on the deck are for the rear speakers, it's on the sub amp right now.
I'm not working tommorow so I'll take some time and see if I can fix the problem.

Alright, today I've been messing around with stuff and found that if I move the ground wire on the deck the noise gets quieter, but doesn't dissapear.
I grounded the wire to where the amps are grounded and that seems to help the best. The wire I was using is about 2 1/2' long, but that was the shortest piece that would reach. I know you're supposed to have a short ground, but how long could I get away with? To wire it in with the amps so it's not over the seat it'd have to be around 6' long. Is that too long for a ground? Would I be better off just running it to the battery (it's a shorter distance)?

Thanks for the help guys.
