Any one know what the difference between the Promos 50 and the 2150AM amps? They look to be the same yet the ProMos is rated at 50x2 @4ohms and 200x1 @ 4ohms and the 2150 is rated at 150x2 @ 4ohms and 600x1 @ 4ohms? Both heat sinks are the same size and look identical? I dont really want to open either one up as they both have the factory sticker over the screws (not that its a warrenty thing but...) I thought I heard somewhere that the ProMos 50 was a beefed up 2150 board but if so why would the specks be so much lower for the ProMos

 

Yes the ProMos line had the same features as the AM line.

The answer to your question is High-Current vs High-Voltage designs.

 

IIRC the ProMos line was 1 ohm stable. Old school cheater amp.

I didnt realize there was a difference (High-Current vs High-Voltage ) in the amps. So the Promos really dosnt lay out the power untill loaded up

 

You got it. The ProMos is a great old school amp! It was PPI's solution to companies like Phoenix Gold who were, at the time, making the MPS2240 and MPS2500 and could handle crazy loads and fit in smaller power requirements.

BTW: Those rating are on paper from the factory. I would assume those # would be tame to what it really can do when you load it up.

Ie. A ProArt 50 puts out 2 x 50 watts @ 4 ohms, 1 x 400 watts @ 2 ohms, 2 x 200 watts @ 1 ohm. 60 AMP fuse

Now its brother A600.2 2x150 watts @ 4 ohms & 1 x 600 watts into 4 ohms and still has the same 60 amp fuse rating.
