You know, I'm getting sick-up and fed of everyone telling me I have "old school" equipment. Tell me the ZX series isn't very similar to the Ti series anyway, and tell me the Audio Control processors are still not sold and used extensively, and tell me the good ADS components still don't sound compare to mid-level current Focals!!

I'm still looking towards buying used ZPA amps etc. instead of new stuff like Audison and JL Audio because everyone I talk to says I probably wouldn't hear a difference in sonic quality. Or tell me, which manufacturer currently makes amplifiers etc. that have better SQ!!

Perhaps the new term for old SQ equipment should be "OLD SCHOOL RULES"!!

As a long time "old school" equipment owner and user, I take pride in the fact that I have been careful enough with my stuff over the years to still have it in working order and looking good. If someone tries to give me a hard time about it, I just tell them that if they take care of their new toys, they might last as long as mine have...

It's a lot cheaper to buy quality once, take care of it, and be able to have the fun of re-installing it in each new vehicle as time moves on.

For the record, there is lots of new stuff available that I like as well, and if I can figure out how to add it to my system, it will be time for some over-hauling...

My $.02 worth...

Oh, I'm not mad, just curios to know if there are other people out there getting stereo-typed into the "old school" bucket... and whether I'm missing something with all the new equipment available these days.

If your happy with what you got why change it? Don't let the tecnology make you change your system. If it ain't busted leave it alone is my moto. Like look at my ride. Is it old school or is it just me? I've built it for me not for awards. Yes it "may" be cool and old school but it works for me and thats what its all about.

Let me share a secret with you... car amplifiers, audio amplifiers in general, are among the most simple and primitive electronics out there. There really isn't much "new technology" evolving as far as performance goes. There's a reason Rockford didn't change their boards for about 8 years - they had something that worked, and the technology wasn't getting better, so why change?

Newer stuff is shinier. They're designed to look more pleasing to our changing tastes, covered in chrome, and packaged as a new thing. Yes, their board changes, but it's still the same old technology. The design can be better, but it's the same old technology - a good quality amp is just that, regardless of how old it is.

And, if I do say so myself, it might be a world of different from the recent rash of chrome-and-flame, but a set of old RF BBQs can look just as good (if not better) in an install than every new amp out there.
