With the amount of times we see the "don't by from ebay" threads around here, its hard to feel sorry for anyone who gets taken with the amount of warnings.

Better luck next time and i hope you get your money back.

I try to support local retailers when I can, but when they try to seriously screw me for all I am worth, I don't like that. Whenever I go into a local car audio shop, everything is so overpriced, I suppose being in a small town doesn't help much, but still, they should charge over $50 over the MSRP. For example, A friend of mine bought a JBL GTO1202D 12" sub recently, paid $300+taxes for it, convinced that it was a good deal, which it clearly doesn't, and the MSRP is only $99 USD! He went back 1 week later (bought it on boxing day, supposed retail price was over $500, even had a sticker saying that price!!) and asked for a refund. No. He fought with them for well over half an hour (we were both there so I took a few shots too) and they were just being asses. We even brought a print off of the page showing the MSRP, asked to look at their price books, but just denied us.

So what we ended up doing was standing outside for 3 weekends, telling everyone who went in how much of a rip-off it was, everyone turned around and went somewhere else, EVERYONE! They called the police, but the guy who showed up was a friend of mine. Oh man that was funny. He brought us into the store, asked if we were the two guys that were hassling them, they said yeah, he asked us why we were hassling them, told them our story, and my friend (the cop) said to the manager that he should just give us a refund, unless he wants the police to do an investigation, so we finally got the refund, and for the next two weekends (including this previous weekend) we were warning people. If they are going to rip off people and be complete asses about it when people found out that they have been had, I will the word as much as I can.

Dealers like loyalty . The first time i bought from a shop i paid top dollar , that was 10 years ago . Within a few purchaces i saw a signifigant differance from the sticker price and what i was paying . Now i barely pay above dealer cost . I got an amp from these guys for $100 dollars less than the lowest price on ebay just recently , not to mention all the free goodies they,ve thown in over the years , wire , connectores and the most important of all , ADVICE !
Tip , if you can pay cash , ask , can i get a cash price on this item ? In a small shop it will usually get you good results .

Many people including myself support our local dealers immensly. There is a MAJOR difference between buying from an online retailer and eBay.

I love the old school stuff and so does Leo (Cutra). The fact that people say you shouldn't buy from eBay is not entirely fair as both myself and Leo have sold on eBay (leo much much more than myself I believe) and for 99% of the amps we like, there is no other location to find them.

The fact of the matter is that this piece of screwed him and worked the system. All that does is educate people who do use eBay. Unfortunately it had to cost someone a few hundred bucks this time but he was nice enough to describe the scam to us in a kind enough way so as to help US not get screwed as well.

Let's not get our enthusiasm for the older stuff confused with dealer loyalty. It's a case where you really like something and there's only one place to find it so you take a marginally calculated risk unfortunately.

Point in case... I've been looking for Rodek "E" series amps for over a year!!! No 2150s, no 2300's 4100's or anything else for that matter. I sure would find it hard not to buy one on Ebay if it ever did come up for sale...

So... I'm starting to think that we should get the mailed to his door COD now in a $500 box for $240 COD.

There's horror stories on both ends. To dismiss ebay completely because of a few jerks is to dismiss local retailers because of a few bad experiences. Cutra did a private deal outside of ebay and got burned...that's not ebay's fault. Anytime you do a private deal, you leave yourself open for fraud....that hasn't changed since cavemen were bartering for wheels. Number one rule, don't buy private unless you can meet the buyer and inspect the product yourself. If you're buying online, go through the proper channels to protect yourself. Separate yourself emotionally from the product (don't want it so bad that you ignore proper procedure). Always deal with reputable sellers and don't ever send cash, cheques or money orders...use paypal or some insured paying system and follow their rules to insure you're protected. My family has been shopping online for years now, and we've yet to have a bad experience. Always look for the product locally first, shop around or go to your local dealer and ask them if they can match your actual landed price...you may be very surprised at how little of a difference there is when you factor in all your expenses. Unless I'm saving 40-50%, and depending on the product and potential problems, I won't buy it from a non-dealer.

Yes I learned my lesson yet i'm also trying to help others also.
Looking for local car audio in Canada is crazy as there is not as much up here and when you do find someone that has somehting they don't want to sell.
It's a tough thing to do....
I never said it's ebay's fault just the scammer's fault.
Thanks for your support.
