you would have to contact marketing companies of the product you want to carry most good names will have a minimum buy in, to start carrying their products some are $5k and others are $25k and the real low end stuff wont cost you a dime. Once you have talked with the suppliers about the product and have come up with the amount of cash you need to get the product you now have to find a location that fits the bill. After this you need to get into a bank and see just how much money you can get you would need $200-500k and dont forget you need a solid buisness plan that outlines your goals for your first 5yrs of buisness.

You would need to get your self some good salesmen cause no matter how much you think you know about car you still need profesional salesmen.

Next you should get a few MECP certified installers that already have a few years experince cause you dont want to start a new shop with all green staff cause you wont last long and if you dont plan on installing what you sell dont bother opening a shop cause its the service you offer that will bring custoemrs in the door.

when I say 200-500k I am talking about a good shop not some 300sqft show room with a half a car bay I'm talking 1000sqft with a two bay shop.

put it this way

1.) 1yrs rent @ $1000/month is $12000 you do not know if your first year will be profitable.

2.) 1yrs heat and hydro at say $200/month is $2400

3.) salery for 2 installers and say 2 sales men for 1yr aprox $115,000

4.) all the specalty tools needed to be able to do the complete solution when it comes to installs an easy $10,000

5.) buy in for GOOD product cause god knows there are to many shops carrying low end garbage like Koss, pyle, audiobahn......in order to appeal to the masses you need good names or atleast one people trust i.e. Pioneer, Kenwood, MTX, Rockford, Memphis, JVC, Panasonic, Eclipse all of which have buy in's from $5,000-$20,000 so lets say $50,000 in product to open your doors with.

so we are at $200,000 and you havent included the cost of registering a shop paying an accountant oh and your salery.

you can not open a shop expecting to get rich in the first year it will not happen period to many people get all excied they see the cash comming in during the summer and blow it all on toys then the slow times come and they cant pay the bills and the shop goes under. For the first 2-3yrs of buisness most sucessfull shops break even or loose money cause they put the money they make back into the shop and save it as a buffer for the slow times. If your looking to open a shop in Ontario make sure you have a government certified installer which will cost you an easy $45k a yr in salery cause with out one, the biggest profit driver in the winter is not available (REMOTE STARTERS). If you dont plan on doing starters in a market where it snows dont even bother opening a shop cause you will go broke in the winter months cause all we do is remote starters my shop allone does close to 200 starters from november to march every year this is the only way to stay above water in the winter.

All this info is from managing two car audio shops for the past 5yrs.

if you want to relocate you can find shops for sale it will save you alot
land lords dont just rent to new shops they like poeple to move in after being open a few years plus if you are in a town that has an alpine panasonic poineer kenwood jl JBL kicker rockford etc you will not get them even with cash i have my lines locked off an so does the other guy in town so no one can come in to town and have them so like me you will plan the store for 3-5yrs before opening and then when you open you will be in for it

what i did not think of that now what
oh where is everyone im so great they should be lined up
how much for the 2x2 add in blk and wht in your paper xxx.xx but you can not even see it
just think long and hard about it
i hope you the best
its a great thing to do
