Would it be possible to modify a 3-way crossover by recombining the outputs so I only have one set of full range outputs?

Before you guys say "WTF???", my intent here to create a frequency isolator. Its commonly used by DJs to filter low, mid, or high frequencies from a song. Although there are a number of inexpensive units on the market, they really degrage the sound quality. Thats why I thought about modifying a crossover.

Is it as simple as parallelling the low, mid, and high outputs together? Would anyone be willing to preform this modification?

I'm a little confused about putting a bypass switch before the filter...

Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of the crossover unit itself?

How would there be problems with phasing?

The unit I was thinking about was a Rane AC23 but I guess any decent 3-way crossover will do.

There could be some differences in phasing between diff circuits, but they should be pretty darn close IMO.. In practice I dont think youd ever notice anyway... (it would really depend on how narrow your filter band is and how far it was off)

Anywayz.. so you want a passband filter... Have you considered just using an EQ to filter the bands you dont want ?

Wether or not you can do it will depend on the crossover... most equipment will have a relativly high output impedance and can handle low impedance loads... in such a case you can quite often sum different channels mono and you are all good... on the otherhand you could also be setting yourself up for some burnt opamps...

down on the ranch when we want to -rig- something up we usually just Giver' and see what happens...

If you hook it up and notice that there are transistors inside getting hot fast you know its probably not going to work without messing up the crossover....
