Performance World (Audio Thunder)

For those of you who went, what did you think of this show from our industry point of view ????
Any thoughts about the future and what should be there or not be there?
I hope that we start seeing the Alpine/Pioneers/Kenwood/etc people showing up again. The volume of people definitely seemed to be there and I thought the overall layout and display quality as a whole is much much better then in the years past.
Thoughts ?!?!??

I didn't go, but managed to make it down there last year.
I honestly don't see them attracting a larger audio base given that they've cut off the auto sound competition portion of the show.
I know that a lot of the tuner crowd also has gear in their car, but I think the larger companies will look and see that they are stepping away from the autosound scene and not want to bother with the risk involved.
The only way I can see things being revied there is if they brought in an org. that did both SQ and SPL. Like USAC or IASCA. (I think MECA does both as well?)
Otherwise it's just not profitable for them. Catering to only 1/2 the market can't be a good thing from a business standpoint.

well it seems that shows and mags are heading towards where there is more business in. car perfomance rather than car audio. but because they are abandoning some folks that are die hard audio fans, doesnt mean that it is a horrible thing. it just means that we need to refocus on how to get the message accross. Lets say for instance you only like car audio and not performance(as many of us do) what can we do about it? well when it comes to big shows that feature spl or sq in them we obviously know what the result is. it has little or no place.
we are persistent at showing up and being the only dodge in an import world. Most guys look at our cars as waste of space and ugliness. Well the hot cars are nice and they do look great but spl competitions and sq are the entertainment in a world of same similar car after another. or at least that is my opinion. we should make the dealer show strong again and the competition become strong again. It is this forte of strong shows that will revive the distributor to take notice and to support competitions. I personally
have seen the impact of showing at least 1 dist the advantage of having dealer shows. and i have created an eager want in making shows happen. i hope that audio thunder does go back to having a competition there... but according to the people that i talk to, AT doesn't make it easy to support thier particular show. so i do not know what will come of it in the future. But we can all hope. it is better to be active than reactive.

Also a bit of a change in heading towards a really big retailing section there now as well. So you can show up with money and walk away with some killer deals. I think there was Pioneer entry level sub for $89 bucks...... or was it $39 ?!?!??! Saw a whale load of people walk by our TREO booth with them.
Good deals across the board for sure to be had from the dealers that were there.

BTW, Hats off to the Kankar guys... A friend of mine who couldn't care less about car audio got to sit in the Treo truck and talked about for about 20 minutes at lunch today! Good job..
BTW, did you know that truck has something like a 12,000 lbs payload capacity?

I know..... that truck was stupid fun. You don't know how many kids I had to lift in and out of that thing all weekend. I was wrecked by Sunday nite. And I think just about every model at the show was photographed at one time or another on the truck. It was mental. We're trying to bring it back up again for two more shows this year.......... Montreal and one other I hope. We'll see.
But it's got to be one of the most people friendly demo vehicles I've seen to date. There were even old people from Hall One coming down just to see it and they couldn't give a rats azz about the audio side of Hall 5. The thing appealed to kids, chicks, guys....... just about everyone. Even some of the toughest meanest looking rednecks cracked a smile when they saw it and went holy shiate!!! It was funny to see people's faces lite up as they were so impressed that we allowed them to get in and check it out. That's what demo vehicles should be all about. It was a good experience.
Just wait until the blow-thru from the bed is done. The thing is going to be MASSIVELY loud to boot. The truck will be a little different next time around.........
And thanks for the compliment Dave!!!
