I updated my sig to my new system plan, I currently have nothing left from my last system but accesories and plan on restarting at the end of next term.

My current thought is not to run ne sub at all. Will the 2 9" mids give me compareable bass to a pair of jl 10W0 subs?
Also they are rated for 300W is that accurate or can they take more?

Has ne one hear just a set of these running in a car, if so how did it sound?

I definetly want a system I just do not want to give up all the trunck room like my last system so I thought this would be a good alternative.

Hey Greg,

Check out elitecaraudio.com. There is a thread about them there right now. The PGs are Morel drivers with the PG name on them.

I have heard the elites.. Great set of speakers.

The 9" midbass wont really work as subs though in my opinion. The cone and voice coils where made for midbass duty (hence why there rated to 1 or 2khz i think it is?). Going with a 12" in the back or different 8"s for midbass/subbass might be a idea.

Also. These are not "Morels with the PG name on them". The elite tweeter is NOT a morel driver.. The mids are built in morels plant but they are not standard morel drivers. The elite passive xover is built in PG's plant using there design.

Kool I checked elite but could not find it.

Chev the point of the setup was to eliminate a sub so a 12" in the back would defeat the point. Plus I would have to use another set of speakers to free up money for a sub and amp to keep a reasonable budget

and chev as far as how the speakers are rated the PG website does not have alot of info I just found out the 300W for the 9" is peak not rms.

anyone else got experience with these?

The manual for the 9" elites states power handling as 350w's RMS. Where did you hear different?

Where are you planning on mounting the 9"s? You could go with a different 8" or 10" instead. 2: 10"s IB'ed through the 6x9 holes in the rear deck would work nicely.

PG web site
http://www.phoenixgold.com/tielite9m.html
ya they are 350Wrms for the pair not per

I have never heard I set of free air tens but I did consider trying to completly seal the trunck into one big box, and mount through the 6x9 holes. Can that be done?

Yeah going through the 6x9 hole works.. All you have to do is, Make sure there is room, Make mounting rings to hang the driver below the hole, seal the trunk, and pick decent IB subs.

I think a 2way front end (either the ti5's or ti6's) and subs in the back (either IB'ed or in a box) is a much better system then using the elite 9's..

I dont think the 9" mids will replace subs, I'm sure they will sound great and play pretty low, but unless you are mounting them in enclosures I doubt you will get that same effect.

Free air subs are good in the sense that you will save lots of trunk space, but you wont get the pressure levels that you would with an enclosure.

I would probably just wait until you have heard it without a sub, and then perhaps down the road you could consider adding one (if budget permits) should it still be lacking in the sub-bass department.

I have the morel 8's (actually 9" total diameter)
they will definetly not replace subs, even a single 10" but boy wil they fill the front end with tight accurate midbass!! with a proper install, most people wouldn't even miss their subs all that much... i tried mine again without the sub just to refresh what they sound like on their own 2 days ago and it was surprising to see that much bass coming from the doors (not to mention right up front)...

as for the 300wrms... there is no way that is a single driver rating.... if so, i'd love to put them to the test although i'm sure of what the result would be...
