Picture problem with Clarion LCD in aux input with Xbox
#1
Well finally got my Clarion VRX745VD in dash lcd unit and everything's working out fine except for one thing. I've put an Xbox into the aux input and all I get when I turn the xbox on is a black screen with a few lines moving back and forth and I can barely make out the Xbox main screen.
Here's the setup with the Xbox: The video signal is connected through an s-video connection comming from an s-video box connected to the xbox. To connect to the Clarion unit I've used an s-video to RCA adapter. The Xbox is powered by a 150 watt inverter which is not working well. It will power the xbox for about a minute and then go into protection.
So here's the question... where's the problem? Obviously I need to get a new and more powerfull inverter and my first impression is that the xbox isn't getting enough power from the inverter and consequently sending a bad video signal. I've tested the s-video unit with the xbox and it works perfectly with a TV at home. I've also screwed with some settings on the clarion unit and I've had no luck.
Any ideas feel free to post a reply!

Id get the new inverter first and see what happens... I dont know what the quality of the Xboxs powersupply is like, but you are generally best looking for an inverter that puts out pure sine.... you dont want any funkey harmonic garbage.. (it might not make a difference though)
Why not try powering the xbox on an extension cord from your house and see what happens ?

I believe the problem in this case is low video voltage from the x-box, or signal loss after the x-box.
If the inverter can't power up the x-box, then obviously the x-box is not getting enough voltage to give a picture.
Spend the money on a good inverter, and keep in mind you will more than likely expand it's use in the future to mabe a laptop?
If x-box provides a spec on the video output voltage, check to see if you are getting it from the RCA or S-VHS output, you should get at least 1-2 volts.
