Does anyone know if a hole the size of a pin in the muffler is bad for the car, and approximately how much it would cost to fix??

Some mufflers have a drainage hole on the bottom side to prevent condensation from building up inside and prematurely rusting it out.

Yes, it's VERY bad for the car. [/snicker]

It could also mean time for a new muffler. They do get louder over time, and also get louder if you drive it hard because of muffler temperature.

A pinhole size leak shouldn't cause a significant increase in loudness, so that's why I'm thinking patching it up might not do anything to help.

fixing the hole with tape can and will work in short term. The hole will become bigger unless it in the drain hole. I tried to tape it way back when ( my own car ) then even welded a patch over it. Eventualy the muffler fell apart around the welded patch. Welding it just slowed it down! Do cars need mufflers LOL it just tells people your coming!
