Pioneer Premier DEX-M88?
Anyone remember this one?: http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...ren/dexm88.jpg
Anyone remember what kind/type of D/A converter it had? Preout strength? Number of preouts? Any other special features? Thanks! |
I have a brochure at home with the M88 in it.
I can't remember the type of D/A but I do remember it had something like 4v RCA outputs at a crazy 4ohm impedance. My biggest worry would be that it's 12+ years old so parts are gonna be tough to get. :ohwell: |
Thanks DUKK, true about the parts thing, for sure.
|
Wow thats old. Like 1993 old. Anyways I guess I'll show my true age again (what is it with you and the old gear anyways :) )
- It was a preout only deck (no internal amp) - 1-bit D/A converter - It had changer control Hope that helps! |
This unit was a part of the 1991 line-up.
Best feature with this head unit was that is had an optical input and output. |
Thanks for all of the info, guys! I do have an old-school gear fetish, it is true...... :)

You are probably right Joe. As my foggy brain remembers, the published specs say 2volt with no specified output impedence but in an early issue of Carsound they tested the one in David Navone's car and it was 4v @ 4ohm.
Classic old school overperformance  Again, this is from memory.. :ohwell: |
The Pioneer literature says 500mV @ 4 ohms.
|
Thats .5 volts preout then :sly:
|
Almost everything was rated at 500mv back then :dunno:
It's amazing we could actually get stuff to work  |
I received a message from someone on another forum who said this:
"The HU actually puts out 3V with impedence output of 4 Ohms only. Lowest impedence HU ever built. One of the last head units with a discrete power supply. No tuner. An external tuner was optional. The optical is a bit sensitive to vibration. So, securely mounting the HU is critical. MSRP in 1991 $900.00" Interesting. |
