Lucite is Acrylic (Plexiglas)

Lexan is GE's polycarbonate there is a difference.

Polycarbonate is more flexible and almost unbreakable while acrylic is harder and less flexible (not as strong). Polycarbonate has much better heat tolerance ....and the big difference is Polycarbonate is much more expensive.

I do not believe there is such a thing as ‘mirrored Plexiglas’ as a material, I think it is simply a mirrored film appliqué (like window tint)
Sorry guys I went into full geek mode there

No No its much appreciated bro...

The lexan will be used for a viewing window on a box and the lucite will be used for an amp rack cover and some minor things here and there... (no stress or pressure will be applied so i figured it will be ok.)

as for the mirrored plexi i see it all the time... however im wondering if it is just a simple tint put on a think piece of acryllic etc... im assuming if this is the case any tint shop will be able to tint the acryllic for me

Hey Team Shadow do you have an email that i can reach him at possibly?

have a 3foot square chunk of mirrored plexi in my garage - it's a true mirror, not a film or one way mirror tint. I got it from a customer though so I have no idea where it came from
If you find more on this please keep me in the loop

Biggest thing I do not like about polycarbonates is they do not polish up from a wheel or flame. It takes a special solvent. Acrylic is cheaper, works just as well for a box (remember we want more stiff than strong) and is simple to polish
Poly has a habit of just scratching rather than polishing. Another issue with polycarbonate is its chemical resistance is not as good as acrylic! It etches easily with chemicals. The solvents in a typical oil paint (alkyd) will break down polyc and acrylic and force a bond so be careful about painting around it.
It is nice hearing your hands on experience with the stuff since I get to select then perform NDT and destructive testing on this stuff sometimes.
