can the polk mm1540 15" svc 425rms sub hold up perfect sq in a sealed box?

or is a ported box neccesary?

 

it would do both well since its qts is .5, it all depends on your goals and type of music you listen too.

 

well im going for all-around uncomprimising perfection .....accuracy is really important to me but i listen to alot of rap too and they say ported is better for rap and dance but i just dont get how dirty, late sound can ever be better for anything ...... so basically if i put this thing in the recommended sealed 1.5 cu. ft ...or maybe a slightly larger sealed box will it have trouble hitting long deep notes or stretches loudly and accurately? like what is the tradeoff here?.......also i plan on giving it 400rms will that be a problem in either setup?

 

Accuracy is your goal then go with a big sealed enclosure but you may be disappointed with the output especially with 400rms.

 

ok and if i go with slightly over 2.5 cu. ft slot ported what am i losing that way? ...how audibly off will it be?.............and u said disappointed? .....how so? (fyi this is just for in-car personal listening pleasure i know its not an insane amount of power) ...or are u saying that much power will affect the sound negatively in a sealed box?

also if i would go sealed what size are you talking when u say big?

 

also if it makes a difference i plan on having the crossover set somewhere between 125-150hz

 

To get a flat response in a ported enclosure the sub requires minimum 4 cubic feet in air space, it has a big VAS.
A well designed ported box is greatly efficient compared to sealed, 400 watts in a proper vented enclosure is enough to give you a nice flat response on low to medium listening volume and dash rattling, mirror shaking output when hammering it.

If you want sealed go with 2.5 cubic feet.
