ports size
#3
While many SQ-type sub systems might not need larger ports...they certainly don't hurt SQ. For SQ, I try to use the largest port possible until it becomes impractical.
Of course there is an upper limit to port size...but the upper limit is pretty big...especially when you consider that SQ-type sub systems usually tune pretty low. Hence the upper limit in terms of SQ is usually a non issue.
For more info on the upper limit of port size, please read Dan Wiggins white paper on the issue. I read it so long ago, I don't know where to find it...sorry.
For all out SPL, output heavily depends and relies on the port. Maximizing port size, cone area, and power are key.

For more typical applications, I'll allow up to 35 m/sec (around 0.1 mach), if the shortening of the vent length is advantageous (from a sonic standpoint - pipe resonances, leakage, etc).

Not sure if it's the exact same article that gleepoy means, but I found this:
Vent Sizing
You can go back to archives and try another year, maybe you can find something.
arhive.org FTW!
