Ok I just got a source for 4x8 sheets of 3/4" MDF for $21 plus tax per sheet. In order to get this price I need to buy in groups of 40 sheets at a time so I was wondering if anyone on here would be interested in wood at that price keeping in mind they would have to come to Welland Ontario (around 1.5 hours from toronto) in order to pick it up.

Jmac 12-13-2004 10:15 AM

Woohoo, now I won't have to pay that extra $3 + tax ...

Haunz 12-13-2004 10:28 AM

I was thinking the same thing

Edit: some places do charge almost $35/sheet though...

Hmm, I pay $23 without PST so no thanks.

Team Riprock 2 12-13-2004 11:03 AM

How far do you figure you can get on $3-5 worth of gas?

JordyO 12-13-2004 11:19 AM

He's trying to do people a favour that might want to buy a large quantity.

Why are you guys crapping on him?

A simple "no thanks" or no reply at all would have sufficed..

ShockingCanada 12-13-2004 11:44 AM

home depot charges 29.99 for wood...after tax that is a price differance of $10.34 per sheet. if you are into SPL and need wood and can take like 10 sheets thats over $100 in savings...basically you guys should do the math and realise that while you guys may not test and be loud some people do and they go through alot of wood and this could save some money. I also got a price on shop grade wood which is $19 therefore would have a savings ot around $12.64 over home depot prices...since thats like a 36% savings you guys should close your mouth

Jmac 12-13-2004 11:46 AM

It's $24/sheet here ($27/sheet for 1" MDF) ...

Just assumed it was similarly priced there ...

mik 12-13-2004 12:00 PM

Why its it like 30 bucks a sheet out here. :(

MIKEONE 12-13-2004 12:01 PM

Icon 12-13-2004 12:01 PM

Father Yuli 12-13-2004 12:23 PM

u13grocerygetter 12-13-2004 01:03 PM

Wow I would really hate to live in the GTA. I pay 20/sheet of 4x8 in Cape Breton.

BooLeaN 12-13-2004 01:12 PM

I pay 30 bux a sheet too. It sux.

If I don't go get the wood I need tonight then I'd be up for a few sheets. I'm really broke now though so about 4 is the most I'd buy. I'll let you know for sure in a bit.

Thanks,
Craig G

where is particle board 8 per sheet? even that is like $20 here at home depot

MR2NR 12-13-2004 02:44 PM

Five Finger Discount Jim's Particle Board Emporium.

**** disclaimer ****

product may not be as it seems.

Try not shopping at the big box, you might be surprised to see what can be found at Home Hardware for example. $21.00 for 3/4 mdf any day of the week here in town. Home Depot is in tiwn as well and is substantially more, as is Windsor Plywood. (the guys with a patch on their eye and a bird on their shoulder).

seege 12-13-2004 02:45 PM

I pay $39 per sheet of MDF after tax in my town, and home hardware is the only one that carries it. Maybe it would be worth it to take a truck up to Calgary and get a bunch of sheets to last me a year or so.

a_d_a_m 12-13-2004 03:02 PM

$24 for premium MDF here

Some of you guys are getting hosed!

Haunz 12-13-2004 06:36 PM

No it's 23 sucker. :D

X

ShockingCanada 12-13-2004 08:34 PM

what is MG ply? Anyway I would say its likely cheaper for MDF in BC and Alberta because the wood comes from BC and alberta so its cheaper to ship it a short distance than to haul it across the country in order to sell it...maybe I am wrong about that but I don't think the majority of our wood is manufactured in ontario

Rip Rock 12-13-2004 10:31 PM

Hey toolman where do you work at?? We need lots of 3/4" mdf (plum creek perfered). Mabye you can hook us up??

I work at Timbertown Northwest Calgary.
How much are we talking here? I do not work until Friday because of Final exams but I can check current cost and get back to you on pricing if I know what kind of quantity we are talking about. I would love to hook you guys up. Not a problem, but I cannot guarantee plum creek as we do not do the major purchasing through our store. We usually have excellent premium and have very good shop grade most of the time.

fozzz 12-13-2004 11:12 PM

Guys, in some cases the price differance may exist because you're getting different grades of MDF. Yes it's true, there is more then one grade of MDF.The are other densities as well (MDF,HDF, LDF, ULDF, you get the idea). Find out what the quality of the material is, then make your decision.

ChizzerZ24 12-13-2004 11:31 PM
