Problem?

The wiring for the deck in my 1988 Jetta is all hacked to hell. I have went on the Advice of Ross and install dr to connect my deck, and it does not power on. I tried my Alpine deck and my Clarion, both decks I know work fine.
I do not have a test light on hand so I cannot test. What are some other methods I should use to trouble shoot?

Not sure if this applies to an '88 VW, don't you have to connect the full-time and backup power together to the deck? The VW's usually allow you to turn the deck on with the keys off, so with an aftermarket one don't you tie the two power wires together?

if your key sensing feature still works(key in the slot but not turned on),use the small 20ga brown w/red stripe to power up your acc. wire on your deck. being a vw owner you would know you can put pretty much anything in the slot a get it to turn on the chimes.my wife has a 92 jetta and i hate those chimes. out with them!dont forget to add a fuse. also, test lights are cheap and good to have
