the best thing about not selling eclipse is that its the easiest brand on the planet to sell against, i would rather sell against eclipse than any other h/u brand

let me start by saying that i think eclpise is a amazing product and up until last week it almost made its way into my store
first thing that makes it easy to sell against is the esn, you know its cool and i know its cool but its easy to discredit it as a pain in the butt if you lose the cd, forget what it is, and everytime you unhook the battery or take it in for service you will have to find the cd and insert it and if you dont happen to have that cd with you, you will be driving home tuneless, blah blah blah, i can go on
2nd of all is no detatch, 300$ deductables can get exspensive and cleaning up glass in your interior sucks, you know you never get it all, not to mention the feeling of being violated by a scumbag thief and having to drive down the road knowing that some douchbag mf'er had his filthy hands in you ride, i will never hack the products quality and reliability, which we both know has been questionable over the years, but in the hands of an experienced saleperson its easy to sell against without outright bashing the product, esn and no detach=too much to talk about for competing stores

^^^ Dave is right... I used to live/work in downtown Vancouver and I for one can tell you that JUNKIES DON'T CARE if a deck is code protected -- they just sell them in the bar or on the street for $20. To the other arguement, EVERY headunit line on earth has had problems with product quality and reliability if you can name one, let me know.

^ Had a guy come in for an alarm in an older Accord. ICBC told him one more claim and his deductible was going up to $2500
Dude was my age and had a stock stereo in the car..
And Dave - I totally agree. ESN gymastics + no detach is trouble.

If your ESN was registered, Eclipse will replace your deck if it was stolen............
Also, with the new ones you can get into the ESN code (again if registered) with out having to send the deck to Eclipse................
How many people ACTUALLY take their face off their deck.....................I never did.........never do..........
If you do take your face off, how many people actually take it with them ? It's either on the visor, in the console or in the glove box..................
If you don't take your face with you why not buy a deck that will replace it...........
Oh......and it's insurance or Eclipse.......your not getting 2 decks......

I sold Eclipse for almost eight years at Ralph's Radio & I loved the stuff.
I truly beleived in ESN & I owned a 5303R CD tuner & a 5061A six disx changer & ESN'd them both. I never had a problem with a lost code myself but I did help a number of customers who did.
The problem lies in that we in the industry know that ESN is a great system but most thieves don't know about it. Not only do the units still get stolen, the "free" replacement works VERY rarely. I only processed two ESN replacement claims in eight years. If your window gets broken, your door lock punched, your convertible topped slashed you're going to have to make an insurance claim any way. You might as well make a claim for the head unit as well (as long as you're under your converage amount) becuase then you won't have to wait for Eclipse to process your replacement & ship it to the dealer.
