Question for DQX owners
#1
Ok folks, here's my problem. I own a DQX, but it's not with me right now. I won't be able to look at it for another week, and I've got an idea that is just killing me.
What are the cross over points?
1.)Please list the subsonic filter points
2.)Please list the low output/ mid output points
3.)Please list the mid output/ high output points
As some of you may already know, these are not listed in any product literature or on the website.
For those that know me, you can stop snickering now.
Thanks in advance,
Adam

I own one.. There are to many xover points to remember. I have owned a few digital pieces, none have had as many xover points as the DQX. I can list them all once im at home with the unit.
How about you tell me what your planning on doing?

Sorry I didn't see your post earlier. The EQX has totally adjustable three way 24db/oct crossover built into it. If you want the manual, go to the Audio Control website Mobile Audio/support/manuals. There is a remote coming out for this unit so you will be able to adjust from up front. There will be a din sized unit about 1/2 " thick that is wired and can be mounted up front. The remote also comes with a credit card remote control so you can keep your head fixed in the listening position while you adjust. have fun!

I pre-ordered the first remote coming into Canada from Karz about 2 months ago. I knew about it last June. I'll keep people posted on how it works.
Info for anyone looking at getting the remote module, it requires a firmware update on the DQX to be compatable with the remote module. You will have to send the DQX back to Audio Control for the update. Currently, DQX's shipped after the beginning of this month should be compatable.
I will be doing some testing with the DQX when I get home. Yes I'll be doing a system test with/and without it inline to my front stage.(passive x.o.s to the 3-way)
But the big news, is that I'm going totally active with my front stage.
Currently, the DQX is used as just a 2 way X.O. with the mid output set without a lowpass. I run my front stage from about 55hz up, and my subs from 55hz down.
JohnVroom, I'll leak the details of the plan here since your listening.
Drivers:
DLS UR-1 tweeter mounted in the A-pillars running from about 6khz up.
Focal Utopia 4" midrange mounted in the kick area running from about 200hz up to 6khz.
Focal Utopia 6.5" midbass mounted in my doors IB(with massive amounts of sound deadening on all surfaces of the door) running from 200hz down to about 60hz
4 Focal 21V2 8" subwoofers mounted in my rear parcel shelf. Each driver has it's own 13 liter enlosure running from about 60hz down.
Here is where things get interesting. As people will note, the DQX is a 3 way X.O and I have a 4 way system.
I also have access to a BAG END ELF-1 processor.
www.bagend.com/bagend/elf-1
This sucker is a monster bass processor for running drivers in small boxes and getting flat bass response. It's a pro audio piece that would obviously have to be adapted to 12V, but it is a wonderful processor. Down side is that it was $3000 bucks when it was purchased in 1995, and they don't make them anymore.
Starting from the bottom up:
I would run the 4 subs off of my Audison VRx1.500 loaded to 1 ohm. (2000 watts RMS) This would be driven by the ELF-1 with a feed directly from my Alpine DVA-7996 deck.
I would run a second feed directly from the 7996 to the DQX. Then feeds from the DQX would obviously be run to 6 amplifier channels. Any one familiar with the 7996 would have picked up that I now have time alignment capability between my subs and the front stage.
Here is where some real fun starts. I would drive my 6.5" Utopia midbasses off of an Audison VRx2.400. (about 250 watts RMS) This amplifier has a ton of options in it. For those familiar with Audison: MAC 2,2-TRM 6.2s, ACB-1, PC36, and an HL12. For those unfamiliar: Integrated fan cooling kit, endcaps, Pure Class A output kit, 360 degree infinitely variable phase control, and an extremely versatile 12db/oct X.O. module. Due to the midbass drivers being mounted closer to the listener than the kick mounted mids, the PC36 will be used to time align the 2 sets of drivers. The X.O. will be cascaded with the DQX's subsonic filter to provide supperior low frequency protection.
And the big surprise! I'm buying an ARC AUDIO XXK 4150 to run my mids and tweeters! I'm actually fairly excited about it. I'll be posting my first impressions of it as soon as I take delivery of it.(I'm still in the middle east as I write this) Rated at about 100 watts into 4 ohms, I think my drivers will be more than happy with clean power.
So there is my plan. Now getting back to the topic of this post, I still need some X.O. frequencies. The X.O. points I listed above are all just general starting points, I've got a ton of tuning ahead of me. There are some other possible signal routing options, so along with sytem tuning mentioned above, I'd like to start figuring out everything that I can try. That way I can make a test plan. As I'm sure some of you know, when you start testing stuff, you get sidetracked following different variations on an idea. Building a test plan is how I keep focused. When I get distracted or sidetracked, I have my plan to get me going in the right track again.
So someone please help me!!!!!

I'm ............uuhhhhh.......... just sitting here reading the post Actually, it's too damn bad you live so far away. You need to move to Toronto. Your wife would love it here and Ontario "is" the centre of the Canadian Universe I'd really like to see and hear how your system works itself out............ through the various stages of experimentation................ with all that gear............and so many options.............. choices. How's the WAF levels. Are they drying up at an alarming level yet. Mine ran out a few years ago

Enough talk of wives drying up (God forbid)
and cheep DQX's (they won’t even be available used of a year or two)
And since when...... Does dawsbreakfast........ Type like RC?......it is unnerving..... We know Dukk has gone to the dark side...... et tu dawge`?
Adam holyshlimolie every facet of your ride is adjustable.... my god you are going to go insane. You know it will sound just perfect one day for an instant, then you will tweak it jussssst a little and BLAMO an amp will blow up and it will sound cruddy from then on. You will be telling stories to your grandkid "Yeah, I remember that day like it was yesterday... depth, perfect imaging…..grandma wasn’t dried up”
