questions

so i dont wanna sound stupid or any thing buy how do you tune ports on boxes? and i have a few questions about setting my sub and amp
like i have a 12 inch L5 kicker in a 1.75 cu ft ported box and an
alpine mrd-m605 im not sure how to set the gain or LP filter what ever that may be or the low pass filter selector or the cross over frequency, so if any one could toss me a few pointers please do
. ps im new to the whole fourm thing and sorta new to stereos but i kno more then most my friends and i wish to kno alot more

i got that much but like how do you know what frequencies you get it to be?

sweet thanks, im gonna try doin that for my next box, will it change with the shape of the box or location of the port in the box?
