"Remember, hardcore 'audiophiles' are primarily marketing victims who have collected enough useless facts to appear intelligent."

Funny, I've always found audiophiles to be music lovers.

Remember the "hardcore" in there.

Maybe it should be "try-hard" or "poser" instead.

^^^^^^ actually, it does mean "lover of music" -- translating from the French "phile" meaning "to love" -- hey Adam, you also have to remember that this person argued that a the DAC a deck uses is not important!

I view that quote similar to what I found happen when I was in engineering school. You would focus so much on some complex, technical theory or calculation that when it came down to remembering how basics and fundamentals worked, you would get confused or simply forget. Maybe that doesn't make sense but that's sort of how I view the XTREME audiophiles I don't know if there is anybody here though that really fits that bill. Not because they don't have a love for accurate sound reproduction but because they don't talk out their **** 'quite' enough.

I get your point SUX, it's called taking your eye off the prize.

You are entirely correct -- specifications are not the most important thing about a component; however, they can be a handy reference at times. Moreover, any component is far more than the sum of its parts.

Interestingly, countless brands claim to have "24 bit" DACs and then when you check it out, the unit has
a single bit unit with "24 bit resolution".

The DAC in a source unit is only a single component; nevertheless, I find it repugnant when someone dismisses its role as less important than a display.

I love my Dynaco preamp (with outboard power supply! ) -- but I have no idea what its specifications are and I bet if we measured it, we would all have a great laugh; and yet, "it just sounds right".
