I have been toying with the idea of these subs to buy for my car, and would like some feedback as to which YOU would buy. I am going to be using a Rockford Fosgate PUnch 400s amp to supply the juice and have been considering each of these subs. Please rank them 1 being best and 10 being worst for quality and performance. Give me your pick of the bunch that you think would be the best value for me.

Type R 10" in 2nd? Good enough for me. I'm
building a complete Alpine system in my car,
since I already have the Alpine CDA-9807 mp3/cd HU.
So far I have planned:
Alpine MRP-M350 200W @ 4ohm mono amp
Alpine SWR-1041D Type R 10" (only one for now)
and later on I'll upgrade my 6-1/2 rear speakers
with Alpine Type S or Type R as well.
After that, I dunno

I would much rather take a set of Type-X components in the front ...
The Type-S speakers are only average for the price (Plus they don't offer a component set, which is disappointing) and the Type-R's tweeter lacks detail, although the midbass kicks *** ...

Type R comps are peaky in the high range and although they got a lot of midbass, it makes a coloured sound.
Type X's are much smoother, it's worth the extra hundred bucks. Go for the Type X's. Oh, and spare some room for those crossovers.
As for any higher end component speaker set, I wouldn't recommend any without using a separate amplifier to power them. You simply won't get the potential out of them by just running them off a deck. That's what stock speakers are for.
I heard a setup with SPX-137A Type X's running off the deck power off a CDA-9813 and it was gross. It got too distorted at volume levels above 2/3rds.
I'm not sure about the 400S rockford amp, but the setup I referred to used a Punch 360a2 and it was a dirty, dirty amp. I know from experience the 360a2 is a distortion prone amp, the 400S might be fine, but I was just bringing up a point.

Unless it's made by Earthquake, I'm hesitant to say that any amp is "prone to distortion" ... If it's distorting, it's more than likely the fault of the user ...
