Thanks for the ideas guys.

I have already upgraded the grounds. (started the stereo install a little bit ago) I added battery to engine block, battery to frame and battery to rad cradle.

The dealer had decided that the star washers on the stock grounds may be the problem and removed them. That of course didn't help.

I have swapped in an Orbital battery with no change.

I could live with, but not agree with the dimming for the time being. The rapid pulsing is ridiculous and at night it's annoying to say the least. I'm more worried about damage that may be done.

I just had a Viper 791XV installed today, so now the dealer has a nice escape goat to use for the electrical issues. I tried to get the problem fixed before the Viper install, but at least I have record of the problem before the alarm / starter install.

Thanks again.
Brad

With the 'almost like it's passing AC" comment, that to me sounds like a diode issue. Diodes are used to block the AC current that the alternator produces in 1 direction so you then have DC current. It will still be a pulsating output, although quite muted with the 3-phase alteration and the battery acting as a quasi-filter.

This is a good article to read. http://misterfixit.com/alterntr.htm

I was told it sounded like a diode issue and told the dealership this as well, but the dealer says they are fine.

Thanks for the link, it's a good article for people to read.

Thanks,

Expensive but...

But a new GM or which ever alt.

Install it.

Then go back to dealership after it's working fine.

Rip them a NEW since you told them the problem but still could not figure it out.

Let me guess... any work would be under warranty...

Walk back in and tell the manager that if they don't fix it you'll take it elsewhere and will be having the bill sent to them... greasy dealership mother****ers... don't let them dupe you, cause they'll try every time....

If it aint under warranty I wouldn't bring it to a dealership in the first place... take it to a shop that specializes in alt rebuilds...

It sure sounds like intermitant diode(s) in your regulator to me....
