re-foaming speakers

hey guys,
i have an old pair of Vivid reference series home speakers.
the foam around the drivers has cracked and went south..
i would like to have them re-done.
anyone here do it, or know of anywhere good in either guelph area or st. catharines??

Go to Canadian Tire, grab some 3/8" x 5/32" heavy duty foam tape. Remove what's left of the existing foam gasket and then apply the foam tape with pressure slowly around the speaker. If necessary, use two layers of foam tape.

okay,
i dont want to invest too much...
i bought the speakers a few years ago when i built my parents an stereo...
we moved and there is no room for them now... i want to repair them and use them as trade bait for my own stereo now.. haha
we'll see how it goes

You can get new foam surrounds off of ebay for like $10.
Go to www.decware.com and check out their how to on refoaming speakers.
I subsituted contact cement for their special glue and it held just fine.

You can buy surround kits even at Parts Express...
Unfortunately, what you don't know is how replacement surrounds will affect your suspension compliance.
Also, replacing the surrounds is a difficult thing, because you are talking about a foam-on-paper (I'm assuming paper cones on those? I'm not familiar with them) joint, and I have a feeling the glue will be the strongest part of it... probably difficult to do.
You might contact the company, and see how much you can get recone units for, you could even recone them yourself at home, which would no doubt be an easier effort.
I don't know what your time is worth, but I'd contact the company and find out what replacement woofers would cost, what having recones done would cost, and also researching (once I got the T/S specs from the company) suitible aftermarket raw-driver replacement drivers for them.
Because I have a feeling this is one of those spittin' and swearin' end up wreckin' the damn speaker driver anyway type of ventures...

the drivers are plastic with inverted foam surrounds...
perhaps i can flea market hunt for a par with better drivers but crappy everythign else...
no rush, they are sitting in the garage and i dont live there

i usually get speaker fixed at speaker city in vancouver. these are the only guys we deal with. we send them stuf from as far away as montreal. dave at speaker city has such a big stock that i'm sure he'd probably have what you need. call him or email him here's their website.
