Really good ear plugs anyone?
#1
Hey guys. for driving some days, with the stereo blasting, and in sound-offs I was wondering if anybody knows of any REALLY good ear-plugs. Ones that offer more then the normal 20-25 DB silencing. Like ones for 50 DB or so. I'm guessing that my stereo can do 130 DB comfortably. Since common ear plugs can only do about 25 DB or so, that leaves me with still 110 DB that reaches my ear, and since that can still do damage, I was wondering if there are any better ear plugs out there that can help silence even more. I'm looking for the in ear kind. rather then those coloussal plastic ear muff style. Does anybody know of these as well as where to get them?

Go for the even better version (I'm going to mod mine and make it high performance). Take a setup like my combined fallers hardhat, faceshield, earmuffs and add the beer holders with a straw on either side. Good for blasting stereos, tuning out your chick, rollovers, beer induced incidents of uncontrollable falling down, straws that can somehow manage to poke you square in the eye after one too many and many other fine areas of safety.

Your best bet is to go to a hearing aid clinic and have custom made plugs made. If you want to go hi-fi get musician plugs. They attenuate all frequencies evenly (well almost). They range anywhere from $40 - $240.
The only way you can get 30+dB Attenuation is to encase your entire body in cement. You actually hear by two methods. One is air conduction (sound is tranmited into your eardrums by way of air - this is what earplugs stop) the other is by bone conduction. The sound vibrations are picked up by the bones in your skull and transmitted to your cochlea.

Mr. Baillie is right, the Peltors are great, my Dad has a pair for his workshop, noise cancelling technology. I did one SPL comp, and used these: http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.a...=1,42207,42227
Seemed to work fine. More options:
Why would you have the stereo so loud when driving that you had to wear earplugs? [/QB]
LOL I knew somebody was going to ask something like that When Im showing it off to other people, time and time again, it'll do some pretty bad numbers to the hearing. When Im just driving, I love it loud, nothing feels as cool as having my back massaged, with the moon-roof slightly open and feeling the bass make my hair to waves and ripples as the air rushes past it to get out of the car. I just like the feeling. Its fun. Im also a nut-case about my hearing though. I've always had WAY above average hearing, and I want to keep that way. Thanks Tim and Haunz (?) for the help

Don't bang your head against the wall because someone asked you a valid and intelligent question.
If you are worried about your hearing and just like the feeling then go out and buy yourself a vibrator. Then just close your eyes and pretend your favourite song is playing.
I mean seriously, driving with the music that loud is not a smart idea. You're annoying any houses in the area and you wouldn't be able to hear any emergency vehicles. Not a smart choice.
