replacement system for used car advice needed
Hello,
I'm new to this forum. I tried searching for the answer to my many questions but I didn't find anything that clarifies what I need to know.
I recently purchased a 2007 Mazda 6 (sport model). The factory system is nice but it does not have some of the features I would like - audio input, USB, Bluetooth. (I got a good deal on the car so I was willing to seek out an after-market audio solution.)
Here are my questions:
- The display is not on the system itself, but above the vents (which has the time and temperature as well). If I buy an after-market system, will the CD display and radio station display appear in this area?
- There are steering wheel controls for volume, tuning, and track changes, etc. Will a new car stereo be able to connect to this as well?
- Most of the systems I have seen in places like Future Shop are smaller than the factory-installed system. Is there some kind of plate or fitting that will make it look right, or will there be empty space around the new system?
- I'm not looking to replace my speakers right now. How do I know a new system will work well with the factory speakers? However, I would like to "future-proof" the new system so that if I decide to get more powerful speakers later, how can I ensure that this will not be a problem?
As you can likely tell, I'm brand new at this. Any kind advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
tubaindy

Welcome to the site.
-you will buy a dash kit to mount the new radio and integrate with the dash. This kit will also have the digital display built in so u do not lose those functional displays. You will also need a wiring harness to integrate with the factory wiring without cutting anything. You may need a antenna adapter as well.
-You will need to install an interface and tie in to the steering wheel remote wire at the radio to integrate your steering wheel controls. There are more than a few companies that make these.
-Your current speakers (and factory amplifier, if present) should tie in fine with an aftermarket radio. The factory speaker wire is big enough to run deck power with no problems, but if you upgrade to REAL power for your speakers you may want to look at running bigger wire right into the doors.
Good luck and feel free to ask any other questions. U can find a lot of answers in this community.
