Evertone who knows nothing goes nuts for those things. Anyone who knows better does not. JL Audio makes great equipment don't get me wrong but in Canada it is not in my best interest as a dealer. This makes it even worse at the consumer level. I just had a deal on 500w rms mono amps for $250.00 I think it was. I have a 1200w rms mono amp on sale right now for $300. I highly doubt that the JL Audio is that kind of price.

The store you went to is full of morons as Yuli pointed out. Your #1 most important goal behind bass response is the box. It is all about the box, screw up on it and no sub or amp combo in the world is any good to you and you just threw money away. A one sub system, measure the area for the box to fit in first. You will need the box custom built for the area and the sub. That is the start of getting loud. Predictability in loudness comes from matching the equipment together properly. A single high output sub in a proper slot port box is the start. I recommend Digital Designs and the DD2512 or DD3512 (if you want power behind it) to start you off. Then choose a amp to match the sub. I know both Yuli and I mentioned it already, but it is all about the box, get it? Don't forget it.

So, you have a budget, what is it? Allow me to work up a estimate for you on what it is you need to do this properly.

I wanted to point out that a copious amount of bass is a subjective thing. What IcedoutJetta believes to be "MEGABASS" may be "just enough" for someone else.
Personally, the SW7200 I bought from MR2NR with 640W (gains down) is plenty of bass.

From what I've seen and heard of the JL equipment, its nice, but for the price its hard to justify purchasing when different brands that cost hundreds of dollars less don't sound inferior.

You've changed your system 4 times over, correct? Then why does it seem like your gung-ho on the JL? You're asking for opinions, and you're getting them, but don't like the responses you're getting apparently.

You need to educate yourself. Those sales-people might be trying to take advantage of your naivete.

the store you went to either know nothing or just trying to sell you the 10" sub. the size of sub has NOOOOOOOOOOO EFFECT on size of battery or alternator. no effect at all.

ok...i guess this will be my learning experience...ok so i will give you guys the explanation that was given to me in the store and you guys can tell me whther it is true or not or can even explain to me what i should do...ok so when i went to the dealer they told me that a 10 inch Jl audio w7 would be the best choice for myself as it would not require myself to invest in a performance alternator and a new special battery. This is because they said that the 12 inch and 13.5 W7 requires too much power especially since i would be powering it with a Jl audio slash 1000/1 monolock amplifier which they said draws too much power and thus my 2001 volkswagen jetta could not draw such power coming from the 12 and 13.5 W7.. this guys is what i was told i am a little ignorant in terms of knowing everything about systems i do know that i would like to get a W7 Jl audio, however still have time to change my mind as i will be purchasing these things within a month or two. So can anyone tell me whther or not this is true? is it remotely a lie? i mean in my head i figure why would the dealer lie to me? since the they would technically make more money off me if i bought a 12 or 13.5 inch? thats just the ay i thought about it...can anyone clarifyu and explain anything to me on what owuld happen to my car if i got a 12 or 13.5 w7?

woops i just read the previous post and yes i do know that the sub size doesnt matter however it is the power it draws correct? and os if i put a 12 or 13w7 then they were saying it will need too much power which would require me to purchase a performance alternator and new battery to power the sub if i do get the 12 or 13 but not the 10 thats y they recommended the 10 but my only worry is that in the end it wont b enuf i heard the 10 in the store but they said it wasnt fully powered as it would be in my car i mean it sounded great in stores but it isnt the same as being in my car right...so any help is appreciated

my budget for the system is rough a couple of thousand...i pan on getting a double din kenwood 8120 which is 1600 or so ...and i guess i would be willing to spend probably 1700 or so for sub and amp...the thing is i have never heard of digital designs dont know really quality wise...however for JL i know theyve been around for a long while and i heard quality is good and many people rave about the W7 IM SO FReaKING LOST...AND sorry if it seems as if im not taking suggestions i honestly am HOWEVER its just difficult because everyone suggests something different and one always figures these dealers knwo what they are talking about....

dealers are sales people, they wanna sell you the most expensive thing they can get away with.

alrighty then what are my options then without going to a dealer? as for building a box where in gods name am i going to go find someone in toronto ontario canada where i can go and say listen i need this box done to these specifications? or does anyone live in toronto ontario canada where you are a vendor? or know someone who does such work?
