Rockford Punch 800@2
#1
anyone own this amp before? my friend has one that we are going to install in his 91 Dakota. How well does it handle 2ohm mono loads? He has 2 Punch XLC 12" (2412-4ohm) subs. The gear is a little bit before my time, so any help is appreciated. thanks

The 800a2 is a great sounding solid performer with tons of headroom. Expect ~900-1000rms out of it bridged at 4ohm.
Do not run it at 2ohm mono. It will do it but get quite hot and shorten the lifespan considerably.
The XLC's (all sizes) are rated for 200rms and 400peak. I would wire the subs in series with the 800a2 doing ~400-500rms at this load into 8ohms bridged. The subs should be quite happy with that power and the amp will stay operating happily.
The XLC's are great sounding drivers also. They work very well in sealed enclosure's of 1.25-1.75 and ported enclosure's of 1.5-2.5cu.ft.
Personally I liked them best in sealed designs. but that will depend on your listening tastes.
