Scary subwoofer problem :(
#1
Hey guys, I went for a cruise today and I noticed a rattling sound I never heard before. Pop my trunk and it turned out to be my sub. It makes a sound like 2 peices of plastic vibrating against eachother and it's pretty loud. What could this be? I'm kinda scared to find out cause I don't wanna hear my subs blown or anything Thanks for your help.
P.S. in my sig you can see what I'm running, my amps gain is a touch past half and the parametric EQ is set to 50hz with a wide 12dB boost.

i would wonder if its your spider loose from the voice coil or the basket
you would have to take the driver out of the box to find out

Could be a possibility, I dont think it's lead slap because they are embedded into the spider. I'm just wondering if I now have a 40 lbs paper weight.

On the HCCA it could possibly be your dustcap, or one of your coils could be mis-aligned.
I remember with one of my HCCA's when I played it free air it made like a plastic slap noise, and I put a bit of weight on the dustcap and the noise went away, and when I installed it there was no noise there to worry about.
If your voice coil is mis-aligned your gonna need a re-cone. I think Orion charges about $100 USD ++ shipping to and from them. And you would have yourself a Brand new 2003 Orion H2 12

Ouch, another 200 bucks down the drain Would it hurt the sub any if I keep playing it even though it's making that noise?

its not under any warranty? if not I say sell it for what u can and just buy a new sub dude. If u can get a sub for less or around the $200 why spend the $$ to repair it for that much right?

Hey man email me bro and tell me what noise you are hearing, You may have blown the sub, If you can take it outa the box and inspect the spider etc see if theres any rips in it. get a multimeter and check the resistance of the coils.
It will be worth it to send it into orion and get te h2 as the h2 handles more power and is a newer design.
