sealing?

hi, i was wondering if i dont go with wire terminals in my box, and i just run the wires through a small hole, must i seal around the wire and if so what should i use, silicon?? thx!!

Most important if it's a sealed enclosure. Not as big a deal if ported as long as it's fairly tight.
I use a wad of auto goop on the inside to ensure a good seal for either.

^ probably want to glue that down too...


I'd use epoxy or even fiberglass resin instead of silicone... but if its a tight hole it wont matter that much anyway...

doesnt the vapor of silicon eat at the rubber suround of a woofer?

No way, terminals are for gweetos. Use straight wire and add some silicon around it and its fine!
Why make more connections for nothing!?

and yes the fumes are bad for the subs. So take your subs out for a night. Next day it'll be fine! Plus you dont want to be pounding your box while silicon or glue is trying to set. Let it set properly. [img]smile.gif[/img]

ahhhhh, NOPE! i wanna be a cheapass with less cutting, and in the case of a terminal cap, avoid the rattling it makes down the road.
