i trully think that both are leaps and bounds better. i do like the rta better only cause ive never had a chance to use a term lab. th AC seems to have everything i need. But i will tell you what. i am gonna get both soon. and see which one is better for me. what i do know for sure, is that with both mics i can easily accomodate any one wanting to join West Coast Extreme SPL and that wants to get thier car measured with either or all mics.

That being said, I am sure that your comments regarding the new AC Senor are accurate.

If one is to purchase one or the other system, they should consider which sanctioning body they are most likely to hold events under -- if they are entering IASCA/IDBL then AC makes sense -- however DB Drag/USACI/NSPL/MECA use the Term Lab Sensors.
Mike, as I said in my last post, I meant you no disrespect. I understood that you were comparing the new Term Lab to the old AudioControl and there is a world of difference between the two, but as I said that is an unfair statement to make.

You're comparing apples and oranges, which leaves a poor percetion of one system over another. I understand and respect your loyalty to the brand that you and others in the west use, and hopefully soon Team Shadow and many others will have AC meters with the sensors and proper comparisons can be made between the two in your area, so you can judge for yourself.

Once again, as I stated in my last post, I believe both systems are awesome and if a person can afford it, they should have both; there are advantages and disadvantages to both systems an having them both gives a person a lot more flexibility in testing, no matter what organization you belong to and/or support.

And Westec, I believe the same holds true for dB Drag, you can use an AudioControl meter at a single point event as well; please correct me if I'm wrong, but the last time I checked it was allowed. You should quote both sides of the coin...

hey there moe! i have herd a lot about you. 173.1 that is something to be impressed by for shure. i am just currious if that score was recorded on the new mics or the old ones? not that it still isn't an insaine score. just currious. and one more question since you have used bolth of the new setups. what would u like to use. i know u said u should have bolth but not all shops have that kind of budget. so i guess what i am asking is what is the most user friendly in your oppinion? thanx for your time.

Hi Justin,

The world record in IdBL that I set was in June 2003 at the Sport Compact & Truck Blast in Syracuse, New York, and was set on the old AudioControl SPL-180 microphone. I am proud to say that no one beat it all year, not even at the Finals. I was surprised, because a lot of the big guns competed on that exact same meter at Finals (Shaker Turgeon, Mike Bartells, Chris Norris, Jamie Delapaz, Jimmy Zimmerman)and I thought for sure I was going to get my a$$ handed to me for the overall record in 2003. But, it held up which makes me happy

As I said, both systems are great systems and I would recommend either one, depending on what else other than SPL you'd be using it for. My opinion (or preference if you will) is my opinion, not a recommendation and is my personal preference. As corny as this may sound, buying a meter is a lot like buying a pair of speakers for your car, it's what you like that counts, not what others say is the best.

I would recomend you try both systems and see which one you like better and which one you find easier to use. My "preference" for ease of use is the AudioControl meter, but that doesn't mean it's a better meter than the Term Lab, they're both easy to use and equally as good.

Hope this helps,

Moe

Hey Patrick!

I wouldn't call it evasive, I call it being very clear on what I'm saying... I know you were just kidding, but it surprises me how some people will take what is said by someone as gospel and go do something because "he said it was the way to go".

Nothing frustrates me more than someone taking advantage of that and telling someone else what they should do, instead of giving them all the options and letting them decide for themselves.

Sorry for the rant buddy, but it bugs me when that happens...

How's the project coming along?

sorry Moe. tomorrow is the day that i send you that email with a initial score with all of it together. we have been slowed with crappy weather. If you saw our small shop you would freak and probably cuff me across the back of my head. Robert has been making more investments lately(not just mics) and one of them is a shop. Soon we shall have all the space and time to work. Finals come up quick and we are gonna give'r heck on tuning and tweaking. we are trying to figure out all transportation(snow being our biggest enemy) and the correct route for us. the straightest route is all snow filled roads(and mountains, ugh). But we have our best man on it(me).

We can't wait.

Cool, I hear you about the snow! Fortunately, I don't have to hike through the mountains, that big a$$ 24 foot trailer of mine would be a b--ch to tow through them.

Good luck with everything and drive safe! I'll see you in Louisville!
