setting my bass center frequency and width?

I'm running an Alpine CDA-9857 with 2 12" Kaption subs in a sealed enclosure.

Could someone explain to me what the "bass center frequency" and width mean? I tried to find info on google without any luck.

What should I have this set at for all around listening... with a touch on the more bassy side (hip hop, etc.).

Thanks!

set your center freq at about 45 hz and your width about half way . this acts as a low end tone control.I use mine at 39 hz ,it helps keep the boom out of my image when i really get on it.

it's a single channel parametric eq with adjustable q factor. Unlike a graphic eq set at say 45 hz that will boost or cut by 10 dB's and will affect frquencies above and below 45 hz at a pre set Q factor(some wide, some narrow). This tone control can be adjusted to "center in" on the frequency you want to affect most, and you can control how wide or narrow the eq band will be (the Q factor). Many people seem to like a boost at about 40-45 hz with a medium Q, very similar to the famous RF punch bass eq.
