Hi,

I've been doing a fair amount of research in regards to car audio. I've concluded that i'm more interested in sq as opposed to spl. On that note, i'm currently in the process of upgrading the audio system in my Crx. I want to keep things as simple as possible.

Current Head unit: Alpine CDA 9815

Current Fronts: Focal Polyglass Components 165v powered by an Alpine MRV F340.

Current Rears: Using stock speakers for rear fill running off the deck.

Considering for a sub. Rockford Fosgate P110S4 Punch 10" Car Subwoofer (to be powered by a Kenwood KAC-7201 2-Channel Car Amplifier.

Thoughts/opinions on this setup? Music interests are primarily, rock, classical, and electronica. Keeping it simple and clutter free are my objectives, with sq the focus of this install. I want something that sounds reasonable (nice and clean up front, complimented by some bass in the back), and am considering the above sub/amp combination due to price discounts made available to me. Do you work for Best Buy? Anyways, there will not be enough room in the security compartment for both an amp and sub. I would look into putting the sub in a fiberglass box in the spare tire well, if you are willing to give up the spare. Otherwise you could do a fiberglass box into the side of the hatch to keep most of the room. If you work at Best Buy you probably won't get it installled there though as they don't do any fiberglassing as far as I know. And I don't know Aurora well so I couldn't make a recomendation on who to go for for a fiberglass box.

Put the tweetes in the a-pillar..

Second the sub in the spare tire well and a good custom installer for the job. Second as well for the tweeter location.

Unfortunately, water leaks and puddles in the spare tire well area, and I really don't want to throw wires into the mix back there. The car also sees track duty, and the box wouldn't pass inspection.

There's an existing cutout made by the previous owner for the tweeter location, but the a-pillar idea sounds feasible and I may go that route instead. Cut a hole in the a-pillar or just mount the tweeter directly against it? Thanks for the idea.

If both the sub and amp won't fit in the security compartment area, I may just leave the sub in there and try to find another area to hide the amp. Or would a decent pair of 6.5" midrange drivers in the rear stock speaker locations provide the decent bass that i'm looking for?

I would first replace all the seals n the back so it doesn't leak [img]tongue.gif[/img] . Then make the spare tire sub box removable for the track days.

At my old shop we built two different CRXs (one placing at the IASCA finals in '95). If you don't want to go into the A-pillars, you could mold a tweeter pod into the far right & left sides of the dash. The dash in that car had a nice, flat area that made it one the best acoustically performing vehicles ever made.

As for the sub & amp location, I had the amplifiers in both cars mounted in the security compertments & used the hatch areas for the subwoofer enclosures. My recommendation for an enclosure (since you want it removable) is to have it built to spec for the woofer & mount it on the passenger side (to counter balance the weight of the vehicle's driver) & use a quick release mounting system of some sort (there's lots of ways to do this).

Lastly, if you want to save space & weight entirely, I had used Kicker F65 6-1/2" free air subwoofers in the stock locations in one of the cars. Give them some power & they'll do OK but most people will long for a bigger sub.
