Is this a simple and smart way to go?
Here's sort of the plan as I can see it...
Purchase a large RF 4 channel amplifier (like my WTB ad says, hopefully Ebay can help me out), use the front two channels to run the front stage in my car, and bridge the two rear channels mono to power the subwoofer installed in the trunk.
Beef up the power and ground wiring under the hood, as well as picking up an Optima battery. Focus on the appearance under the hood and the install, keeping it simple yet also attractive.
Why 1 amp? Won't draw too much current as opposed to multiple units, since I have a small stock alternator and battery until battery is upgraded. Also, being a small car, I don't need 3-4 amplifiers with 1500 watts pushing through, plus room is not abundant. What would be the point for a daily driver?
Let me know your thoughts. I think if this can work, and if the install is decent, it'll look awesome and do well in a local show.

Yeah, I was thinking of getting the large Alpine 752 amp from a few years back, although I don't know if I want to run a pair of rear speakers. I'd assume you mean bridge the front 4 channels to run the front stage. Anyone know what current it would draw continously for that amp?

Sounds like a good plan. I've done that in several installs where the same install-unfriendlies present themselves (Stock alternator with no future plans for a HO, space issues). Don't worry about a battery. A batteries purpose is to start the vehicle, nothing more. If you're relying on your battery for anything else, you need to turn your concern to the source of the problem (alternator).
