single and dual voice coil ??
 

just have a few questions, on the weekend I picked up 3 mtx subs from a friend, now they have the same model name, and look exactly the same but 2 of them are single voice coil and one is dual voice coil, first off I was wondering if I can still use all these together? and if so how would I go about wiring them to a 2 channel amp "Ultimate T3 500D"

what are the VC's in ohms on each ?

all are 4ohm. any help would be apreciated

if you wanted to do all 3 subs and have a 4ohm load i guess you could wire
the dvc sub in series(8ohm),and the other 2 subs in series(8ohm) then parallel them to the amp- i would probably just use the 2 single voice coil subs wired in parallel giving the amp a 2ohm load. I though the Ultimate t3-500d is a monoblock

Any way that you wire it, your DVC will either get 2x the power or 1/2 the power of the other subs.
The above mentioned suggestion, while working well to give you a 4 ohm final load, will still give the DVC 2x the power as the other subs.

Those subs are mis matched. Either get rid of the DVC or get rid of the SVCs. You cannot get equal sub performance from that setup.

thanks guys for the help,to be honest I have no clue about the amp i'm a newb when it comes to stereo's, my old roommate was the stereo guy, what is a good web site to explain more on wiring subs in series and/or parellel? I run my batteries in series for my hydraulics but batteries and subs i'm guessing is a totally different game? also i'm not looking for crazy bass or etc, just would like to use all 3 sense I got them. but if you guys think it's a bad idea i'll go with what you guys say.

well I got the concept of wiring in series or parallel, but stll kinda thrown on how to wire them, ok i'm running one positive cable to the positive on one side of the dvc, series it then one negitive cable to the other side on the negative post, now where i'm thrown is am i just running this off one channel then tieing the 2 svc's in series off the other channel? or are they both coming off the same channel, and am I bridging the amp?

That's a good way to get no output from the sub and potentially burn out the voice coil.

Think of electricity as a river. It flows - in one direction from + to -
So, flowing from the + of the amp it flows to the + of the coil. The flow then moves out from the - of the coil. From the negative of that coil you go to the + of the next coil out the negative of that coil back to the - of the amp.

Remember, it is flowing. So even though it is flowing OUT of the negative from one coil that means it is flowing IN to the positive of next coil. Positives always receive the flow, negatives always discharge.

If you were to wire it as you posted above, the two voice coils would be fighting against eachother effectively producing no output. Furthermore, since the coils would be fighting eachother in opposite directions, there would be little to no movement on the coils. Movement is necessary to keep the coils moving - so you would likely burn the coils out as you tried to get volume from the sub.

I still hold fast to my earlier statement that your set-up is miss-matched and it won't produce good results.
