I am getting a very low volume HISS/FUZZ sound coming from the speakers if my car is running and my head unit is turned on. Even if the volume **** is at zero. Another clue is that the sound does not increase with volume, it just stays constant.

Is it probably RCA cable related? I generally use only Stinger high-quality cables...

There is absolutely no hissssing at all if the engine is off of course...

Any opinions?

you just told your self the answer. Your going to have take the engine out and get a couple of horses to pull you around now. you'll save on gas and every one will look at your car now. roflmfao j/k

now on a more logical note. your gettin interfearance from the engine. it's most likly the speaker wire. mabey upgrade to something with more insulation. so it can block out the sound from the engine

 

^^I disagree with the speaker wire idea.
First off, what kind of gear you got? head,amp etc..
You say its constant so if you rev youre motor does it get louder with the reving or no?
I'd say yoy got the right idea with rcas.
Try running a new set and see if that will fix it.
I had a power acustic amp awile back that was doing the same thing ,had to put it in the shop to put new female jacks on it.
Could be coming from the h/u as well.

 

well i still think it's interfearance from the engine, actually i know it is. so i guess if it's not the speaker wire then check the rca's. mabey thier end's arn't insualted properlly.

I've experienced interference from the engine before, otherwise know as Alternator Whine, but this is different, and it doesn't get louder any time, regardless of engine RPMs.

 

Hmmmm......... noise that doesn't change pitch when increasing rpm. I don't think it is the speaker wires. Although the speaker wires could be close to some weird electrical device.

RCA's sound more like the culprit, but for it not to show up when engine is off is kind of weird, too.

The only way to find out is to hook things up to external devices. Use some portable speaker making sure speaker wires are not close to electrical devices, feed your RCA signal to a home amp, stuff like that.

One other possibility........ it could be noise caused by a heater fan that's close to your speakers. It sounds like it's your speakers. Turn everything off.

 

first thing to try and checkign yoru ground wire connection , try sawping rcas, speaekr wire, its most likly 90% one of these are not hooked up right. or faulty.

Are you listening to the radio? if so then you might have a bad antenna connection, the engine would throw off the frequency. Are your speakers connected directly to your head unit or do they run through an amp?
