I have a 10 with a sealed 1 c ft box. Some hear have listened to it during last season. Got more than enough boom for my tastes. I too have no more room in the car and won't up to say a 12. you may have to replan the box. Think of it this way it's only time and materials. And you do have space for 1 c ft already! Just my 2c worth. Good luck

I am running a Kicker Comp 12" (for sale too) in a 1.5 cubic foot sealed box, sounds good even off of low power. Ran it through Bassbox, the Comp 12 in 1 cube sealed will have a Qtc around .838, if you have lots of polyfill in there. Should be decent?

Money and space are both issues....

The box I have in there is as big as it's gonna get ...it's tight as it is.

I have maybe 300 Watts RMS going to it with a crappy amp. (plan to go to 600 watts)

It's not pushing anywhere close to what I'd like to have in there.

I built with what products I had at the time and for what my budget would allow at the time ....now I'd like to build on what I have
Staying out of the Pizzin contest… . Above are the focal points of your history and future desires (Mr. big ears) correct?

We have all been there: limited budget, limited equipment, making the most of what you have and the bottom line…ITS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Solution: MONEY and TIME! Maybe not a lot or time and money, but be prepared to step backwards to go forward. (Empathy step)

-600 watts will give him what… 3dB more output? A good start almost doubling the output
-Basically if you really have acquired all the room you have available to give, the driver you use must be matched to that box volume for max output. The box should be ported or sealed to match the driver, and porting will generally give you more kick than sealed so a smaller driver may be in order.
-Nowhere did I see a desire for SQ only a desire for more dB so that actually is a cost and time saver. (Meat and potatoes step)
- Don’t take too much offence at Ty’s comment, he is an offensive little feller though , but your situation is one we have all found our selves in and Ty is saying ‘I told you so’ for everyone’s benefit. We only have 2 ways to learn -through our own mistakes, and through others mistakes (trust me, I prefer it when you err and I learn). (close the contract)

To get more dB

1 -more watts
2 -more cone surface area
3 -more cone excursion
4 -more efficiency, sensitivity
5 -optimizing box volume (port, horn loading, transmission loading, boundary loading)
6 -more drivers (this is basically increasing surface area but putting a butt-ton of 8 inch drivers can work)

anything else?

Sorry dude...i wasnt meaning to come down on you, just trying to make a point that possibly asking FIRST, or looking at what size woofer would work best in your available airspace BEFORE building the box may have been a good idea?

Live and learn dude. Cant learn every lesson the easy way.

Man I do have big ears in that picture hehe ..

It's not that I'm not interested in SQ it's just that I'm pretty satisfied with the mids that I have installed (a set of infinity 6.5's) so 'SQ' is something I will think about upgrading at a later time.

The bass level is what I am concerned about increasing at this point.

I appreciate all the input I have received from everyone.

Bottom line is I'm not prepared to drop down to a 10" when I have a box already in place that houses a 12" ...

Sure a better thought out system before dropping the money on stuff woulda been smarter but over the last year I have received so many different opinions and this one seemed like a good one at the time.

Hind sights always 20/20

No offence taken Ty .... I just think the more experienced people out there tend to forget sometimes that some of us 'beginners' get 1000 opinions thrown at us and have to make a decision to start somewhere.

I started somewhere and didn't end up where I wanted ....and because money is an issue I'd like to work with what I have now and upgrade to a sub that will give me some more pound.

Obviously I'm going to have to goto a shop and see what sub sounds best in my enclosure once I purchase a better amp.

Question: How is it that a 10" sub would get louder in the enclousre I have now without porting it when a 12" has more cone surface area and more excursion?

because the 12 needs more air to push out and in a sealed box air is very limited, but most 10's dont need to move as much air to get the right sound*...

*I believe that is right

Look at the specs

Sealed box sub qts between .5 and 1 (general)

lower the fs the better (either sealed or ported)

Lower the vas , the smaller the box needed for the sub to be able to play lower frequencies (sealed or ported)

A 12" sub can be better suited and sound better than a 10" sub in the same sealed box.
