At work i use a fairly basic Weller soldering station.. This one here actually, http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...ID=14722&DID=7

A solder-sucker works wonders for desoldering something from a board though.

You need more power than 15W. Weller has a complete line, get a nice variety of tips (that is crucial) and get quality solder...it makes a difference. I use silver solder for my audio applications but it is a total pain, it doesn’t flow as nice, or bond as well, as the regular flux loaded stuff. I terminate my own RCA's (yes I am that cheep) and various connections. My connections generally look like heck but are strong.

I use the cheepo copper braid for flux removal though the vacuum ones are pretty snazzy.

eI use a cheaper weller workstation about $50 USD at partsexpress. I bought mine locally for about $80 CAD. It is variable from 5-40 watts and has worked for a variety of apps. Solder sucker is a necessary tool for removing components - definitely get one.

I use a Weller work station, that has 5,10,15,20,25+ setting. Costs $40 CND, works great.
